	Do snails eat algae?
kowar100 Fingerling Posts: 47 Kudos: 45 Votes: 0 Registered: 03-Sep-2005	I was thinking of adding a snail or 2 to my aquarium. I heard they consume flake food that settles on the bottom of the tank. Do snails also eat algae?

It is important to get the right kind as some snail species prefer a nice plant over any algae. This is of course not a problem if you don’t have any plants . But also remember that 2 snails will be 20 in no time (and so forth). If they cannot find any new algae or anything else to eat they will die and pollute your water (decaying body). And remember as well that they add to your bio-load. 2 aren’t bad, but 20? Ingo Proud Member of the New Jersey Aquatic Gardeners Club
