jfk Fingerling Posts: 41 Kudos: 42 Votes: 1 Registered: 10-Dec-2004 | my girlfriend wants to start keeping fish, and i have a spare 10 gal. i've been trying to figure out what to do. i've decided that it will be a planted tank with some driftwood. fish wise is hard part. here's what i was thinking: 7 harlequin rasboras 1 dwarf gourami 5 ottos does that sound like too much? instead of the rasboras i was thinking maybe glowlight tetras, but can't make up my mind. plant wise i was thinking java fern on the drift wood. haven't decided what else. lighting will be low to medium. i will be using florite, and can do co2. any suggestions would be great. thanks |

Wingsdlc Fish Guru What is this? Posts: 2332 Kudos: 799 Registered: 18-Jan-2005 | It sounds like you are off to a pretty good start. I would cut your total fish down a bit. 5 Rasboras 3 Otos 1 Male or Female Betta. For plants: Java fern is a great plant to start with. Also look at Java Moss and Anubias. You may be able to get a way with a handful more depending on how much like you put over the tank. 19G Container Pond [IMG]http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y118/Wingsdlc/Ric |

Personally I prefer not to put any schooling fish in anything smaller than a 20g. There just isn't enough space for them to swim properly. I know a few people have done it with really small tetras like neons and a school of 5-6 fish but 10g tanks just aren't long enough for me. I only use them as species tanks to put 1 type of small nonschooling fish in. |
