I have kept them before, they reqiure fresh water not brackish, minimum of 5 gallons, a good few plants so it breaks up territories, they are super nippy. Also they need to be fed live/frozen foods b/c very few take flake but mine did thou, also they must be fed snails aswell, so their beaks dont get too big. They are around $5.99 each here.

How do you feed them snails?

MONKEYS ARE COOL, BUT SEA-MONKEYS ARE BETTER.

Brackish water is water that is particallt salt, but not mairne. And you just get live plants for the tank and that should provide enough snails to keep their beaks in check.

They eat pest snails. When I first bought mine I went to PetSmart in the morning when I know they clean their tanks and asked for some. I set up a small Kritter Keeper for the snails; if you put them in the DPs tank most likely they won't get a chance to breed and you're back to step one.

They also like frozen bloodworms.

DPs are definitely FW, not brackish.

Get a small aquarium (Ive used a 2gal) get the snails (pond snails) from the petstore (don't buy them, they are pest snails)I don't use gravel in mine because they make SO MUCH poo. It's easier to remove it that way. Keep the temp around 80 Change water (I do 25% weekly) Feed leftover fishfood (flake, tablets, whatever) Snail eggs will be in a clear rubberly blob on the surface of the walls of the tank, anything else you put in there. It should take around 2 weeks for them to hatch. When they are about the same size as the puffer's eye, they are ready to feed them. Any larger snails, I usually smoosh them before I put them in the tank.Otherwise the puffs will just suck the snail out of it's shell and not eat the shell.

Well on average they are very nippy, i had mine in with a female betta, a trio of sowrdtails and the puffers ate all the tails off of them.

My DP is in a calm community tank, has been for over a year. No shredded fins in the tank.

How many dwarf puffers are you planning on getting? Also - to make sure we're talking about the same fish - are these the very tiny puffers (about 1/2 inch) that look like the ones here?http://www.petresources.net/fish/misscel/tet_tra.html

If so I would recommend at least a 5 gallon tank. They will eat bloodworms and snails (which are important as stated above). Just put the snails in the tank, if they are too big for the puffers to eat they will become great snail factories for you. Alternatively breed them in another tank (snails only or community).

Mine will eat the huge ones. They just suck them from their shell.

They are actually one of the puffers that does not need their teeth regularly trimmmed. But like everyone else said snails should keep their teeth trimmed down.
