I herd of some one dwarfing thier convict cichlid and wandered if it was harmful. I thought it would be nice to move my convicts to a smaller tank and wandered if my babies would grow smaller than normal in a 5 gal. tank.
Thanx

Dwarfing is bad, as it caused deformities in the fish. Weither it hurts them or causes pain, is doubtful, as they will addapt. But none the less, it causes deformities and will shorten the lifespan of the fish. Some deformities are curved spines, miss placed, shifted, or wrongful growth of some organs within the body, flattened mouths and noses, and others.

As for your convict babies in a 5 gal, it depends on the numbers you are talking about. If you are talking about some that you have from a spawn of large numbers, they will be fine until they reach about an inch in length. As they they will be overly crouded and as they are very active, will spike ammonia and cause other problems.

No new, you are missing the point of the statement here. The cons will be ok in the 5 for a short time period only as a growout tank. By leaving them in a 5 for a prolonged period you will be inducing deffects in your fish from toxicity poisoning.

i am IN NO WAY SAYING TO DO THIS, but if you keep water quality TOP notch, you can keep them in the 5 gallon, and by top notch, I mean waterchanges every day, ect.

But i wouldnt do this, because it is a REALLY tight fit (like trying to put 3 whale sharks in a 55g tank.

Even if you kept the water quality up, which is difficult in a regularly stocked 5 gallon, there is the issue of space. Once the convict starts to grow up, it will run out of room to swim and be happy. They do get 6-7 inches long when grown, and that is a CHUNKY 6-7 inches.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.
