I thought it would be nice to move my convicts to a smaller tank and wandered if my babies would grow smaller than normal in a 5 gal. tank. Thanx -NewBreeder16 _______________________________________________ You can call me Newb too, since I'm not nere new any more. |

Weither it hurts them or causes pain, is doubtful, as they will addapt. But none the less, it causes deformities and will shorten the lifespan of the fish. Some deformities are curved spines, miss placed, shifted, or wrongful growth of some organs within the body, flattened mouths and noses, and others. As for your convict babies in a 5 gal, it depends on the numbers you are talking about. If you are talking about some that you have from a spawn of large numbers, they will be fine until they reach about an inch in length. As they they will be overly crouded and as they are very active, will spike ammonia and cause other problems. There is always a bigger fish... |

The cons will be ok in the 5 for a short time period only as a growout tank. By leaving them in a 5 for a prolonged period you will be inducing deffects in your fish from toxicity poisoning. |

But i wouldnt do this, because it is a REALLY tight fit (like trying to put 3 whale sharks in a 55g tank. |

Once the convict starts to grow up, it will run out of room to swim and be happy. They do get 6-7 inches long when grown, and that is a CHUNKY 6-7 inches. They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver, So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces. |
