They lay red/pink colored eggs in clumps, and I think they even lay them above the waterline. That sound like your eggs? |

Depends. Do you want a bunch of baby snails? If so, then that is a good thing. Otherwise, get rid of the eggs. Your snails are going to be fairly prolific breeders, so don't be surprised to see more eggs in the future. |

A space to lay eggs above the water, plenty of food, and high enough ph and calcium to keep their shells from eroding. If you meet those requirements you will easily have several hundred snails in a short time. |
judz![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Enthusiast Posts: 256 Kudos: 160 Votes: 5 Registered: 06-Jun-2005 ![]() | so if its laying eggs my ph is too high |

judz![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Enthusiast Posts: 256 Kudos: 160 Votes: 5 Registered: 06-Jun-2005 ![]() | how would i or how am i keeping lots of cal in the tank for them |
katieb![]() Fish Addict Posts: 697 Votes: 69 Registered: 03-Jul-2004 ![]() | The Ph comes from your water. If your really worried, you can test how high it is. Also, if you dont want baby snails, just scrape off the eggs ![]() I'll do graffiti, If you sing to me in French. |

Calcium makes up the buffer(kh) that keeps your ph from dropping too low and the general hardness of the water. Usually if your water is over neutral 7.0 ph and you don't have lots of snails there is plenty of calcium to keep their shells smooth and free of holes or weak spots. If you test your water for ph and gh it can help tell you how much calcium is in the water. You want at least 7.0 ph and around 5 gh or more should be enough. You probably don't need to do anything but you can give snails more calcium by feeding them things like kale, spinach, mustard greens, or leaf lettuce. There are also ways to add it to your water but there's no reason to mess with the water chemistry if your snails are happily laying and your fish are doing good. |
