Gang,

I tell you a little story about the events of the last night.

The old man that I am, I went to bed at 9:30 PM and got up when the alarm rang at 12:30 AM.
The reason was that my LFS had a special event that they have once a year. They open the store
at 11 PM and keep it open until 2 AM. They have fish (fresh and salt), dry goods, and tanks for
sale. The savings range over 25% off to barely any. The owner gave me the advice not to come
at 11 as there might be a line of up to 400 people.

So, after I got up, I had some coffee and hung out until 1 AM and then drove to the store. As I got
at the end of the (by then short) line they started to move and I didn’t have to wait at all. Once inside,
I located the rep from AGA, got on his line, and about 15 min later I was the proud owner of a 125G.
The savings were not that much, but as I wanted to have one anyway it was a nice push to finally get
it. It will be delivered to the LFS either this coming or the following Thursday. I bought a stand, tank,
and glass top. The rest will come from online vendors.

I also bought a 20G long that I will use temporarily to host some of my plants. They are currently
overgrowing the 29G and I don’t want to throw them out as they will be used for the 125. So from
2 AM to about 4:30 AM I set up the 20 completely, and later today I will add the plants (don’t
want to wake the fishies in the middle of the night).

Overall, I had fun and the excitement that comes with setting up a 125 is finally getting on its way.

Good for you I kept waiting to hear you got a 125, they really are loads of fun and all the fishies you can keep and make happy...so where is it going? still in the basement?

I know I love the footprint of my 20 long, sure you will to...hmmmmm makes me wonder 20 longthat might be better for school than a 20 regular

Enjoy and just remember the 125 is gonna be one awkward tank Get yourself some help in lifting and moving it, don't think the twins will be of much help

Wow 125g... must be hard to plant as well to move into place. And for water changes you would have to take out 25g for a 20% water change . At least it wouldnt need water changes as often. Hope you have a python to fill that up. Lots of fish possibilites though. Make sure to post some pics .

Good shopping but I think I would prefer to stay in bed and get more sleep.

Gang,

Thanks for all the suggestions and encouragement.

It will be a while until I get started on the 125 as I will need to order all the “tools” first. Also, I need to level the stand and get new electricity in the basement.

Keith – It was nice to do such a thing once, but you are right, the next time I will sleep instead

As to the fishies that I want to put in there – small community, nothing too fancy. I don’t gain anything from having exotic giants or larger fish, I like lots and lots of them.

I will not only post some pics in the future of the tank, I will create a ledger in the style of Matt, Dr. Bonke and a few others. Most likely I will create that thread in either the Planted Tank or the Aquascaping forums. Information about feasibility of this plan is welcome.

In the meantime, have a look at the 20 Long, now one day after setting it up. The water is starting to clear and one can see the plants (list is in my profile).
EDIT: All plants are cuttings/replantings from my 29G. It was getting way to full.

Ingo

looking good ingo

Hint of advice for gravel/substrate for the 125...your lfs should have these heavy "block" bags that are generally grayish in nature...it is sand blast stones...they are smaller than normal gravel, very natural looking, and quite cheap...yet is safe for corriesyou have to have a huge school of corries in the 125trust me The bags are generally 50 lbs and sell for about $10 around here...that's just my suggestion, thought I'd pass it on...

Can't wait to see how they come along...heidi
