I've been bitten by a 3" arrowhead puffer. Doesn't get much worse than that. Incidentally, I also had a full grown (well, close; 13" ) scobinancistrus aureatus bite my hand, and it was actually quite painful and drew quite a bit of blood. I can see now why they are capable of devouring free swimming characins and livebearer fry.

14" Oscar : Would bite me if my hand was in the tank and he was hungry and I didn't feed him.

8" Red Devil : Would attack anyone. Mean little fish.

Adult Male Angelfish : Yes, an angelfish! He was guarding a cluster of eggs and his lady and I got too close.

Adult Male Kirb : Read above.

Sergent Majors : While Diving they tried to kill my legs and fins.

24" Arrowanna : Thought my hand was food.

6" Parrot Cichlid : Just a stupid fish.

And numerous other fish if I just place the tip of my finger in the water when they are hungry.

My danios try to nibble on me when I feed them. :-P Like all of my other fishies, they are too tiny to do any damage. My son thinks he is brave when he touches a golden apple snail, though.

Great stories!

My old severum would always try to bite me. And of course when I look away (just like everyone else right?) he decides then is the best time and gets me right at the base of my thumb. Didn't bleed, but it hurt. I've also had my new Blue Rams bite me but that is just a nip. Also, tetra bites get really annoying after a while.

yeah, I've had a few platys nip at my fingers too. didn't really compare to the oscar or trimac.

I've been bitten by a 3" arrowhead puffer. Doesn't get much worse than that.

doesn't get much worse unless it's a 6" arrowhead puffer, 16" fahaka or 26" mbu. there was a story linked a while back in the recovery room about a guy scuba diving (in Aus. I believe) that got too close to some kind of marine puffer and lost a finger. next thing you know Hollywood will put out some kind of low budget killer puffer movie. then again why shouldn't they after the blockbuster hits Frankenfish and Snakehead Terror (really missing the rolling eye smiley right now)

My krib gets nippy when I'm rearranging things in the tank and she's had enough and it's always the soft underside, never the tough outerside. I think they know.... Then I started handfeeding her and when she's hungry she practically comes out of the water after the food. If I'm not paying attention and reach into the tank without looking I get my fingers nipped. It doesn't hurt but it's always a bit of a shock. Good thing she's small, I'd hate to have a fish I'm afraid of!

ive been bitten for two minutes straight. I was trying to fix a rock formation and my spawning convicts were near it. My faimly members were wondering why i was grumbling with my arm in the tank.

Note: Never ever get bitten by a triggerfish, especially an adult. I've come very close to losing chunks of my fingers to a clown trigger. The sound of those teeth gnashing together is pretty intimidating.

I got nicked by my RD a couple weeks ago. I put in a divider now when I have to do stuff on my tank. Don't wanna get bit by a 10" Black Piranha.

Yeah... Rusty is right - marine crita's hurt heaps. I'v e been bitten by a few crabs, and they really hurt. The worst was a small one that was sheding. I thought he was dead, picked him up, and he nipped me on that soft skin between thumb and hand. My GF couldn't stop laughing... so i wet her.

Worse than a crab - Eel. Morey eel's. They suck, even with thick gloves on. I use to get bitten about once every 20 or so times i went Abalone diving with my grandfather. Never by a really big one... biggest was about 3ft. I hate Morey eels.

Today my sev really surprised me. I stuck my arm in the tank to move a rock and yanked it back out. He bit me so hard it started bleeding. This doesn't really seem normal, he usually gets territorial but never to the point where he was brave enough to touch me, let alone bite me. Should I do something about it? He keeps the firemouth stuck in his cave or in the corner most of the time.

That was lucky with the aro, mine pinched and twisted a small chunk of flesh from my right forefingers' knuckle, I bled like a stuck pig.He mistook me for the frozen thawed fish I was holding. Lesson, dont chat to girlfriend with hand in tank holding food.Watch fish. Idiot.

I have a very large and old (now 18 years old) Tilapia buttekoferi that will attack or bite anything placed into the tank, whether it's a hand, a siphon tube or anything else. He's done this since he was probably 2 or 3 years old. Very territorial. He even tries to bite at anything that approaches the tank walls.

My Purple Spotted Gudgen bites pretty hard. Where the web is between my fingers, it bites there. It claps onto my skin then does a crocodile roll and breaks off a bit of skin. ouch
Now when I am hand feeding that tank, I keep a real good eye on the Gudgen. He maybe small, about 3-4" but he has a big mouth and a hard bite.***Tiger
