| Everyone have fun: A stocking question!! YAY! | |
jovi_princess![]() Small Fry Posts: 4 Kudos: 6 Votes: 0 Registered: 08-Oct-2005 ![]() | Ok, after reading some more things on this site, I am thinking about giving up on my idea of having a 20g tank just for Tiger Barbs. Long story short, now I need some ideas about what to do with my 20g (tall) tank... Right now it is home to a male Betta, 3 Harlies, 2 Cherry Barbs and 2 Panda Cories. (Tank was given to me by a co-worker who couldn't keep up on weekly water changes and too many deaths were occuring.) Now, I have my 10 gallon up and running which will soon be home to at least my Betta and the Panda Cories for right now. Personally, I am not a big fan of the Harlies so I am trying to avoid getting an entire school of them for my 20g. (In a perfect world, I would like to put them in the 10g with my Betta.) So, I have a 20g tank... Cycled and great numbers... The pair of Cherry Barbs will most likely remain in the tank... So, what all would you guys do? I need lots of ideas! I like colorful fish... Active fish... Fish that I can have a good number of... How about Neon Tetras... How many of those could I have? Anything else to go with them? Oh, by the way, I am running a TopFin 20 filter along with a Penguin Bio-wheel 150. Any suggestions are GREATLY appreciated... Basically, I just need and idea of just how full I can get this tank. So, thanks to everyone who can suggest some stocking options for me! |

In the 20 gallon keep the cories as you are going to want to have bottom, middle, and top fish in a 20tall. add 3 panda cories bringing the panda cory school to 5. Instead of neon tetras i would reccomend cardinal tetras, around 8 of them. exactly like neons except slightly larger, more hardy, and more colorful. leave the cherry barbs in there and then add a centerpiece fish such as a gourami. then you could also add some snails or shrimp. |

One, the 10 gallon wouldn't be too over stocked or anything with the Betta and 5 Harlies? Two, I would love to have shrimp in my 20 gallon... The Cories or none of the other fish you suggested would bother them? Do they prefer to be in groups or are they happy on their own? |

With them you can add a school of Tetra's like Lemon, Rummynose or Glowlight. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.geocities.com/s8xi5heh/classic_blue.html http://groups.yahoo.com/group/buzaqq/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

A group ofC. habrosus or C. pygmaeus for the 10g would be nice. You could also possibly keep the cherries in the 10g and get a small gourami for the 20g. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

I have one (Lucky) who thinks, he's momma/caregiver to everything in the 125, while another (Rosa Parks) is a demonistic little girl who definately took care of my guppy fry problem (luckily they were the more "ugly" guppies Then maybe another smaller school of schooling fish or just make the Neons a nice school of 12 or so trust me you get enough of them (without overcrowding) it is an awesome sight *cough*50 in the 125 is something to see at feeding times*cough* Then you could also put the shrimp in with them, but I wouldn't necessarily plan on the Pandas breeding with the shrimp in there![]() For the 10, the cherry barbs, and some pygmy corries would be nice...you would want the smaller corries in the smaller tank so you could have a decent size school of them, they really don't like to be lonely and if you can find the pygmy, i'd go with them over the habrosus since the habrosus tend to be more delicate...Just my thoughts ![]() Heidi ![]() Last edited by houston at 12-Oct-2005 10:25[/font] "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." katieb![]() Fish Addict Posts: 697 Votes: 69 Registered: 03-Jul-2004 ![]() | Id do this 10 gal: Betta and cherry barbs 20 gal: 5-6 harlies 6-8 pandas 6 neons or one dwarf gourami IMHO the betta and harlies in the ten isnt the best option. The harlies like to school and can be very active. if you really dont like them, you can always find a friend or LFS to take them. I'll do graffiti, If you sing to me in French. |
