I believe feeders are not recommended except for as snacks,
but home-raised is better than the stuff you can get at
LFS.

The easiest feeder fish would be a live bearer, since the
hard part about them is getting them not to breed. What
you want to do is to have healthy feeders to prevent
pathogens from transferring into the main tank. So this
means you must treat your feeder fish as you would any
other fish, with TLC. Also you could do potted
plants just use large inert unglazed terracotta pots,
this way you can easily clean up the fish waste.

For filtration I would recomend a sponge filter as you
won't have to worry about dissapearing fry, and the sponge
will act as an attaching place for algae, bacteria, and
other goodies the fry can feed on. You will want to heat
the tank.

I would recommend live plant for the feeder tank, but fake
plants would work, you want to have hiding places to reduce
stress, and plants will act as bio filters to deal with
the nitrogenous wastes of the fish. Floating plant
especially will be extra beneficial as water purifiers and
the hanging roots will provide nice refuge for fry.

Lastly I would entirely recommend that you feed the feeders
high quality fish food. You want nice healthy fish and not
nutritionally deprived scraggly fish e to disease.

HTH,
Megil.

How bout a great feeder fish with low requirements,
high population growth? Guppies!!!
They reproduce regularly, grow fast,
and would create a constant stream of
feeder fish for your ? whatever u are feeding them to.
What are you feeding them to by the way?
To breed guppies, a 20, 25, or 30g long tank
would be more than sufficient. Section off a 3-5g or larger, depending on tank size, area with a tank divider, and then you can just put the pregnant mamas on one side, and remove them after the fry are born.
Thats probably what I would use, Guppies.
