I bought some feeder fish several months back. One of the fish in the bag was far to large to feed to my oscar at the time so I decided to feed it to my turtle. The turtle didn't eat this fish (unlike all the others before it) so it became a permanent resident in the turtle tank. I moved him up to my 55 gal and now he's 5 inches long. I intend to move him to the 100 gal soon. My question is...(drum roll)... how big will this guy get?

2-3 feet and very active.

Feeder fish need space as well as volume.

6' round, 4-6' deep minimum would be a good goal.

I hope to be able to buy a house next summer (so expensive in Southern California) and would love to have my own pond in the back.

We'll see how the wife feels about it. I get "the look" every time I bring up getting something new.

Ahhh, but pond and water gardening are so trendy now. Maybe bring home water garden magazines to show her how attractive they can be.

She's fine with all the kritters (she's the reason for all the reptiles in the house), its more of a money thing. It shouldn't be a problem. I'll just get her some shiny jewelry and that'll keep her occupied long enough for me to dig a pond in the back (j/k)

Wow you have some laid back turtles! I have adult red ears ( about 15 years old) and they regularly eat whole trout between them , a fish in with mine less than about 3 feet long wouldnt stand a chance- especially considering a turtle will bite a chunk out of even a huge fish and wait for it to die. I wouldnt trust em not to take out my arowana!

Might want to seperate em, or it could all end in tears. Not sure getting maimed by a turtle is a nice death, and sooner or later the copious amounts of poo a turtle can produce will probably kill the fish.

What species are your turtles BTW?

I have one Red Earded Slider (aprox. 6 inches), and a Yellow Bellied Slider (silver dollar sized). I'm not worried about poisoning the fish. I run an insane amount of filtering on that tank (thinking about adding more). My turtle will eat minnows, but not goldfish. I'm not sure why. Compaired to minnows, goldfish are pretty sluggish. I keep her pretty well fed also. Its been living in there since may. I dunno....I can't explain it. Looks kinda neat though. I do have to say, my turtles are the highest maintenance pets that I own.
