I was just wondering how often people clean the filters in their tanks, and what kind of filter they use?

Thanks

Carl

I clean mine once a month & change nearly all the filter media, with the exception of the ceramic cells.

I usually clean my internal aquaball filter once a month, but
once I get a canister I will probably clean it less often.

I clean anything that looks like it needs cleaning, the
sponge and filter wool, I also take my aquarium sponge and
scrub the chassis of the filter. Every other month or so I
take apart the impeller and clean it out. Try and leave the
biological media untouched though, mayb a quick rinse with
clean dechlorinated water to get rid of loose gunk and
detritus, but otherwise you want to leave the bacterial
colonies intact.

HTH,
Megil.

have decided to start using it

I have two canister filters on my 115g. And I usually clean them about once every two months.

I alternate them. So one month i'll clean canister A then the next month i'll clean canister B.

I use HOB's, and clean the catrdiges when they get nasty, and the chassis once a month.

I never touch the bio wheels.
