Who knew this thread would generate so much activity - anyway the upshot is that I spent over an hour trying to and finally catching 10 zebra danios and 10 serpae tetras in my 55g - the last couple were tough - had two nets going - I returned them all - and all in one piece - to my local fish store the other nite - the 55 is now stocked with a school of cardinal tetras, a couple of pearl gouramis, a trio of velvet swords (holdovers from the cycling days - too nice to give back) and a school of bandit corys (also holdovers) - the calico koi angels are next in a couple of weeks - and then we're done - thanks for the enjoyable responses - remember it is a hobby - it's supposed to be enjoyable and while we are dealing with living creatures and thus must take care of them it is ok to have a little fun now and then - some of you are way too serious -

So glad to hear that you were able to catch all of the little guys. Trust me I know the feeling of trying to catch fish that don't want to be caught Try catching corydoras and their fry in a 125 (that's 6 foot long in case you didn't know) It is a mission to catch any fish in there that doesn't wish to be caught, much less cory fryAnd hey not all of us are seriousand some of us are only serious on certain days:%)you sure you didn't swallow any? heidi

Glad to hear you got the fish back to the store with no problems Try catching Black Phantom Tetras in a heavily (fake) planted 55 gallon It took a while and I had to take out a few of the big plants

New stock sounds cool

I'm glad you took them back in one piece & Rummynose Tetra aren't easy to catch, either.

Good Job newmand,

Sorry for all the trouble we gave you, hope you didn’t need the advice in order to do the right thing

The thing about jokes is that no matter what the content is, there will be always someone who is offended. In particular when delivered so dry.

Regarding the catching of fish in a planted tank: I tried once to catch my danios and failed. I would have lost half my plants to succeed and didn’t want to risk that. So I am stuck with them. Maybe I should throw a blow-dryer in the tank to stun them a little (gang – DON’T PANIC – it’s a joke)

Now Ingo, you know fish don't have hair, so what good would the blowdryer do themhow about dropping in a cherry bomb to get their attention?

Anyways all kidding aside, Ingo is correct some people just won't get the dry sense of humorwhile others of us are found rolling around on the floor from the thought of a fishy milkshake

Does anyone have an easy way to catch fish? I've actually thought of getting some of the netting material in the fabric department and just making a huge net, and doing a sweep of the tankbut knowing my silly guys and gals they would find a way of avoiding itMaybe trying to catch them while I have their attention doing a gravel vac? Who knows, don't think it's realistic to think about:%)

Catching fish? Oh, fun.

Let me tell you, juvenile Panda Corys are deceptive. They don't look as if they can exceeed Mach 2 in level flight, but the moment they get a sniff of a net, it's light blue touch paper time and watch them red shift ...

They are also manouevreable to an extent that would make your average F-22 Raptor pilot go green with envy. And have a seemingly limitless capacity to search out tiny gaps to escape through when trying to catch them in a net close to the front glass. The ONLY way I can catch juvenile Pandas is to remove ALL aquarium furnishings, then use two nets and intermittent cajoling with a hand inserted into the water. Even then, they are escape artists par excellence and need to be watched like a hawk - one blink and they're off, leaving you to try and catch them all over again.

A juvenile Panda Cory may look as if it has the aerodynamic profile of a school bus compared to the likes of Rummy Nose Tetras, but that doesn't hinder them one little bit.

Oh, and you'd better make sure you watch juvenile Pandas VERY closely when trying to net them, because they're capable of becoming surprisingly airborne if you don't.

Catching fish...lots of experience with that after moving last January, nine tanks

For me the worst has been trying to catch kuhlis in a well-planted tank with driftwood. They can find the most amazing hiding places and they're fast :%)
