Better to find them a new home (at lfs for credit or not, a friend, a school - donate your tank and such too if you can - whatever) than kill them.

But if you gotta "get rid" of them, *DONT* flush unless you are on a 100% for sure closed septic system - you can introduce non-natives and create biiig problems that way (snakeheads in NY, oscars and such in S.Fl. canals, etc). On top of that, it would be a really unkind death.

Should you decide that killing the fish is best you can at least be humane about it. Dropping them into a bowl/cup of hard liquor does a quick job, as can lots of clove oil in a little water in a cup/etc. Near freezing water in a ziplock bag and then into the freezer has been mentioned quite a bit, but I've also read some posting somewhere about how a few fish kept on flopping for a while. If you are up to it (adn you must be to consider a fishshake) just decapitating them in one chop with a big knife works well, but they tend to flop a lot out of the water.

( to the softies - flame me or ban me, but lets face it, sometimes it is best to put an animal down for whatever reason )

Give to friend, return to LFS, or put an AD in FishProfiles Classifieds section. No flushing, no blending and no gross jokes. I dont even eat fish in the presence of my fish

I've brought fish to my LFS no problem. Although you might not get all the money back, if any, depending on their policy.

And even though I know you weren't going to blend fish, the idea kinda makes me sick to my stomach. I like my fish cooked and filleted, thank you, if I'm eating them, that is.

ok as tired as I am even I got it was just a shot to get our attentionor at least hoped it wasand who would put the fishies in the blender? it's more fun to just swallow them, and feel them swim their way down

As for the question, your lfs or a smaller one in the area should take them back at least for a little store credit towards your next credit...

Good luck, oh or you could always do like Ingo saidgo get another tank and uh cycle it as well, and then uh the MTS begins

I thought it was funny.
I also could see it was a joke.
Some of you are a little high strung.
And I believe that you need to take your vicoden and chill.
I love my fish too and I could see the humor.
Sorry but JEEEZUZ, lighten up just a smidgen.

(HA, HA I used the word "smidgen", that reminds me of my favorite word "doily", HA, HA)

And this comes to you all in fun.

Have finished cycling tank with danios and along the way added some swords and tetras - now want to get rid of all of them and start new tank with angels - what do you all typically do with the fish you no longer want - return them to lfs, find a friend who wants them, flush them or fear factor fish milkshake?

do local fish stores typically just take them back?

Take them back to the LFS or ask another fish place if they'll take them.

flush them or fear factor fish milkshake

Not cool... really really not cool... There's really no need to ever flush a live fish down the toilet...

or fear factor fish milkshake?

If you want to talk about putting live animals in a blender, you're on the wrong site. I really suggest you delete this thread because once people start comming here, they're going to flame you like crazy. Really, that's animal cruelty.

I suggest you do something before you as well as alot of contributing members are going to wind up banned.

Return them to the LFS. they may give you store credit, they may not, but the fish can then be re-homed.

If the LFS won't take them, someone in your local area will

(and completely aside, blending a fish is probably kinder than flushing a fish, but neither are considered acceptable options)

For animals, the entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks. - Terry Pratchett

Sheesh, i know that fish can be considered kinda dumb compared to some animals, but they are living creatures. I am so tired of this idea that animals are playtoys.....

Get another tank, take half your fishload to cycle it, return the fish to the original tank, fill new tank with angels.

(no comment on the other stuff) <-- Guess that is a comment
