and the other one has a great range of fish

I go to them when i have nothing too do

I only have a few stores in my area, with only two worth visiting. One of these is my work, about 35 minutes away. We have a great selection of fish and supplies, though the goods are priced a little high.

The other store is the first one I located, a pretty small outfit. I used to go there every week or so, but I've been visiting much less frequently since I started working. This little place does occasionally get cool fish in though, so I keep my eye out! Only a couple of the employees seem to be knowledgeable, unfortunately.

5-6 that i visit regularly that way i have the widest fish selection i can pretty much get.

How many fish stores do you typically go to, for purchasing fish, equipment, asking questions, or looking around?

I visit 2 stores, because they are the only specialist fish stores I know of. Both of them have opened branches elsewhere in the last few years, but my locals are the originals.

Are they actually worth visiting, or do you go to them out of boredom?

They're both worth visiting. When I have out-of-town visitors I take them to the one that has GORGEOUS display tanks and treat it like a free public aquarium

Yeah, that has happened a few times. As a regular visitor I build up a rapport with a particular employee whose knowledge and opinions I trust. There have been times where I've gone in and discovered my trusted person is on a day off, so I go away and come back when they're on duty. Unfortunately the employees (usually young kids) end up moving on to a better-paying job somewhere else and I have to start all over again.

But There's one that 5 minutes from my houseI never really go to, so I didnt count that one. There's 3 in Silver spring, one with I never go two since every time I've been there they have ich in every tank. 1 which is kinda spooky and 1 which I've used for trades and such a bit.
2 Petsmarts in my town, that I'd only really go to in an emergency.

I like the former because it's smaller and quieter on a saturday morning, I like the latter cause it's big and has a huge selection of dry goods and tanks .

One store has been sold and it seems to be going downhill since the new owner. Two I like to go and see their fish and drool over their tanks. Need to get brave and cruise into Houston to check out the lfs there.

One store, their stock is expensive but quarentined before going onto the floor for sale but it is very expensive for equipment.

Second store is cheaper for equipment but their stock isn't that great. If I get their fish I quarentine for 2 months.

I go to five or six stores, but I only buy fish at one, which is also the only place I get any questions answered, because I trust them there. The others are usually just supplies. One private LFS I go to just to see how badly things look THAT particular day. I've only ever bought three things there... a betta that I rescued, a decoration for a coworkers betta tank, and a piece of driftwood (they actually have a nice selection of wood and rocks, but I wouldn't touch the fish in their tanks). I would never buy fish at any of my "supply" stores except maybe Petsmart, which is where I get the majority of my supplies... their tanks are decently kept compared to the others.

Are they actually worth visiting, or do you go to them out of boredom? Many times I'll go out of boredom, but there's only one that I really despise, the one with the really bad tanks. I love my fav LFS... doesn't matter why I go there, I almost always learn something or see something new when I'm there, so no trip is ever wasted.

Are there certain stores in your area that you refuse to buy things from? I refuse to buy fish from three LCS's and one LFS (the one I've mentioned). Mostly I buy supplies from Petsmart, as I've said, but if I need something that they don't carry, or if I need it right away (Petsmart is a decent drive), I'll go elsewhere.

Do you visit any stores in particular just because of an employee that you know? My fav LFS *is* favorite because of the employees. Truth be told, it's a bit overpriced, but the quality of fish and information is superb. I created a thread a while ago, stating that you know you spend too much time at the LFS when the employees know your name... and you've never introduced yourself. I don't know if they picked it up when my mom, sis and I were there, or if they peeked at my checks/debit card... I dunno, but that was weird. But Rich and Art make my trip to the LFS worthwhile.

some good ones. but i go to whole sale to get my fish.

theres 2 that i visit on a regular basis

I frequent all of them, at least monthly. There are about 20 within a 20 min drive from me, and about another dozen within 30-35 mins. They all have their specialities, their goods and bads and such. I have about 6 that I frequent on almost a weekly basis.

no, the best LFS just happens to have employeers that i know and that know more abot fish than i do

and going off topic does anyone else apart from me love going into random LFSs and tormenting the employees with tales of catfish they have never heard of?

We did have a good local Aqu but now only a pet store with a very few tanks and mainly CW. A new one has opened and is only 20 min away it is a pet store with plenty of Aqu experience 20+years My others are over one hrs drive and are all in the same general area I start at the top and work back home.

I pass many others but they are a waste of time.

There's only 2 stores where I buy fish.
However, if I know there's a store selling fish near wherever I am, I'll go there just to see what it's like.
