Should be fine. But keep the speakers away or tuned down low.

HI all. If you keep the speaks turned away from the tank should be no probs. sound is really just vibrations, which do carry thru water better than air. as long as the vibrations are not directed to the tank they should not transfer to the water.
Some species of fish, such as mormyrids or other electrogenic fish (knife fish, etc who use small electrical fields for communication and navigation) may sense interference from the screen. bettas should be fine.
As for spillage, well, you're on your own there

My 30 and 55 are both near my 8 computers and a 600 wat stereo. If RF was a factor I would think I would see a mutation or 2. I dont think there is a problem. I would keep your bass turned down however. I have 2 21' monitors, 2 19's and 2 running through a KVM switch all hooked to a UPS backup system. My fish are glad that I am in the room with them. =)

where i sit at my desk im about5 inches away from my 125 litre and have another 3ft tank about 2 ft to the left.

then when i lie in bed i have my 4ft tank next to my bed

must say sometimes its hard to get to sleep due to water noise!

I also blast out my music but it doesnt seem to have any affect on my fish, they dont hide when i put it on or anything. Most of them infact come to the corner nearest me and swim up and down (in the slight chance of them gettin fed i reckon!)

Hehe... I know. I heard some of your comments in chat. I wish my computer was still upstairs, but there's no hookup for the second line upstairs and the 'rents would have a hissy if I got online on the main phone line. Would be cool... I'd be surrounded by all my fishies.

On the other hand, the new 12 gallon is sitting on my filing cabinet, where my tower used to sit. I'll sacrifice surface area in my room for tanks.

I don't have a desk strong enough to take an aquarium. So for me, this issue doesn't arise.

My Panda Fun Palace™, however, is located just over my shoulder as I sit in the armchair and browse the web at my PC. The perfect set up for running commentaries on Panda spawning antics in the chat room

In fact, several of my Pandas are getting frisky right now. Must have been the "red spaghetti" I fed them with 3 hours ago

Yeah, I drink at the computer all the time. I've moved the tank back a smidge... gotta clean up the cords a bit so I can move it back a bit more. Though, truthfully, I'm not terribly worried about knocking it over. I spend all my time on the left side of the desk.

I drink soft drinks at my computer. I think there would be less risk of spillage from the betta tank, than from an overturned drink. Especially if you are going to move it a little farther back from the edge.

Here's a thought... is there any worries (besides the obvious point of water vs. electronics) I should have about keeping a betta on my computer desk? It probably won't be a permanent situation, but thought I'd ask in the meantime.

He certainly makes an entertaining deskmate, though... I don't think I've ever seen a betta flare so much. Don't know why, he seems to be flaring at any and everything.

My new 34lt 10 gal Betta tank will be close to the side of my computer screen which is sitting in a unit 200mm -8ins above my desk top. Nearest speaker is 1mt - 3ft+ away.

I have a 5 gal on my computer desk with a Betta. No problems at all.

Although looking at the history on the browser he's been accessing some funny sites. Must be him. For some reason my wife didn't believe me when I tried to explain to her

I would push the tank back a bit. Where it is now a careless elbow and you'll have a flying betta.

You should be fine. I've had my 20 gal. next to my computer desk for about 3 years with no problems. One of the speakers, which gets turned on loudly every so often, is literally less than a foot away from the tank.

Mwee, no... that's my desk at home. I have to clean up a bit (as you can tell by the prolifiation of power cords) and then he should be able to get pushed back a bit. It's nice to have a buddy at the computer.

No problem with the computer (I have a 20 long on my desk - they often watch me type since the keyboard's right in front of it), but it looks close to the edge! If there are no kids or coworkers in the area that hopefully won't be a problem but I've done some silly things in my time and I'd worry about hitting it with an elbow or something.

If he did get out and type, it would probably be about all the bad care he got at the store... he's either a delta or a veiltail, and either way, he's got some pretty bad finrot going on. If he's a veil, he's only got half the length of his tail.

As for the speakers, they can really be cranked up pretty loud, but generally the only thing piped through them is IM beeps. I've got a stereo on the other side of the room that I can use for music. Now, if I could only find the remote for that, I'd be set... I'm so lazy.

Biggest concern I have is how loud the speakers go. *Squints @pic*. You'res aren't nearly as big as the ones I had in the studio that I blame the death of my first betta on but.... so yeah heads up on that...Looks like it should be okay otherwise.
