You can add some Corydoras or some Tetra's with your Betta.

It totally depends on his personality. I had one so nasty he even didnt like me, ive had others that would get along with anyone....
If hes calm, go for a school of neons, trio of cherry barbs, or cories, maybe a snail. If he's not- Plant it heavily, and call it good.

Hmmmmm let's see little sis, something that could get along with a betta in a 10 gallon? Not a whole lot unless he is calm and friendly...Give him some MTS, Ghost Shrimp might last for awhile with enough hiding places, and if he is friendly to others then maybe some corries that are his size...if not....well, not much else...I've seen one Betta kill a snail that was bigger than he was...let him enjoy the room...Heidi

I've had a Betta in with a Male Molly. They got on so well together.
I've now have one in a 4 footer, with barbs / tetras/ molly/ guppys (see profile) but his personality is a bit meaner. Doesn't like one of the silver mollys nor the guppys.

I just added a betta to my ten gallon and it seems to be working out well. The occupants were six female guppies when Feather (the betta) was added.

When first added to the tank, Feather was chasing the girls around for a while, but that settled down once he figured out that they weren't a threat to his masculinity.

best thing to do is completly rearrange the entire tank and place the other fish in 1st then the betta later. this will prolly give you the best chances of other fish being allowed. he will be enterd into THEIR territory rather then the other way around. it still wont garantee anything. i tried this a dozen times with mine with some cories and well...he wasnt haveing it lol. so he spends his time with 3 nocturnal dwarf frogs.

A lot depends on the personality of the betta...I never had a male betta that could be kept with other fish

Depending on the color of the betta and if he's interested in coordinating or contrasting, I really like cherry barbs. Peaceful, nice coloring, can be kept in pairs. Some of the smaller rasboras such as exclamation points would work too.

Pygmy cories are a good choice for a 10g. Ottos, too, but I wouldn't add them until there is some algae established. African dwarf frogs don't bother other fish and are often kept with bettas.

We went shopping today and picked up some things so we could get a ten gallon going in his bedroom. For starters, there will be one of my male bettas that needs a new home in there.

So, since he doesn't believe me, suggestions for a betta in a ten gallon please.

Six small cories, small non-nippy tetras, white clouds, ottos, small rasboras, rams or Apistos, possibly pencilfish or hatchetfish (the problem with each of them is that they would likely occupy the same area of the tank as the betta, making the water look less 'full'), a small pleco, cherry barbs, a snail, ghost shrimp (which might get eaten), or an African dwarf frog are all likely candidates. What does your brother like?

I am going to set up a 10g for Valentino. Natural gravel, hob filter, some mts, and cories. Keeping it simple.

Well it's not divided, and it wont be.

There's like a 50 watt heater, AquaClearMini, and full hood w/ flourescents. Natural gravel stones, several plastic plants and a big 'ole rock.

There's one male betta in it now---we need suggestions of what he could add.

*knows but of course her brother prolly wont listen to her*

Thanks Guys!

I would go with a group of smaller cories or maybe a school of WCMM.

You want suggestions for fish to go with the betta?

Don't get upset if he doesn't let any other fish live in the tank. It really depends on the betta.

But if he does, 2 blue rams would be a nice choice, and they will stay in the lower portion of the tank. Also ad 3 otos for algae control.

That's what I would do.
