In the wild they are found mainly in freshwater and brackish waters, though it depends on the species (some prefer more heavily brackish or marine water). Sand is an absolute necessity for these fish - their whole body design is so that they can bury themselves. They feed mainly on small invertebrates found in the sand (which is why they are hard to feed), but they are also known to sometimes be predatory towards small fish. At work we have a 6" Asian Sole (Brachirus harmandi, a true freshwater species) that seems to be doing pretty well so far. By "doing well", I mean it is still alive. I've never seen it eat, but I bury tubifex worms in the sand and the fish is still alive after three months, so I guess it is eating them. It's not the most interesting fish... During the day it just stays buried in the sand with only its eyes showing. Last edited by Cory Addict at 22-Sep-2005 20:24 ![]() I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash. |
