Does somebody have a list of puffers that are freshwater or can be kept in freshwater their whole lives?

Also if you can please include their size and minimum tank size.

The only one I know is the dwarf puffer. They get 1-2 iches long and can be kept in a 5 gallon.

I should have mentioned I'm already well aware of the dwarf puffers. Problem is, I never see them anywhere around here, but I always keep my eyes open for them. I see quite a variety of others though, and I'm looking for one thats suitable for pure freshwater, I'm sure I'd see one sometime with how many come around.

Have you ever looked for dwarf puffers at petsmart? They're commonly kept there.

Hmm, that's odd, I wonder why it isn't working. Here, try http://www.pufferlist.net

That should work for you. There are actually quite a few species of freshwater puffer. Unfortunately, with the exception of the dwarves, they're usually more difficult to find than their brackish/saltwater counterparts.

I can vouch for that. I've been looking for replacements (excluding shipping) for a pair of c. irrubesco I had to let go during a move. This was several years ago. I haven't found one since.

...I also live in San Diego. I've seen that site before, but thanks anyways. Fish2U also has them, but I've heard some disturbing firsthand reactions to them. Again, though, puffers don't ship well and paying 30+ dollars for overnight gets to me.

Yes but they have a live fish guarantee plus how do you think LFS gets their puffers from ?

Again, its totally up to you though

Good luck

Live fish arrival doesn't mean much. Having worked with wholesalers for about three years now (our store is herp based, so I'm basically running the fish section--besides, I know jack squat about reptilians), I can tell you that "live arrival" insinuates that they arrive intact, but could very well die the next morning. Young puffers, especially, are  e to arriving with torn fins and bite marks, and take a while to adapt to new conditions, if at all. Thanks, though. I'll keep my eyes posted for a local hobbyist with these fish.
