Hey i have a school of 10 cardinals, and they are preety much bottom dwellers they love the plants and decor, so when im feeding the flakes for the gournamies and tetras the gournamies nab the food b4 the tetras can get any, and by the time the flakes end up sinking the cardinals wont eat it, but the white clouds will, i dunno i think they might be prissy and want the expensive stuff. Any suggestions?

You might want to try to hatch some baby brine shrimp, they would probably love it. Other than that, my cardinals eat Omega One freshwater flake, and occasionally frozen mysis or brine shrimp that I feed to my angels.

Petco sells brine shrimp kits for about eight bucks or so. I've been thinking about trying it myself; it doesn't look too difficult.

And yes, no posting in all caps

Try something like Hikari Micro Pellets or Earthworm flakes.

I'd say your fish are just a bit frazzled at feeding time. They should settle down.

For animals, the entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks. - Terry Pratchett

New Life Spectrum makes a small fish formula that are REALLY small pellets that sink slowly, perfect for fry and small tetras . They are about the size of " . " The gouramis probably wont touch it, so the neons will have a chance to get it.

I started using a new flake food (it's a crisp really) from a company called Aquadine. Got it from my LFS, so I don't know if it's available to the casual hobbyist. There is NOTHING left of the flakes when I put it in the tank. Also, you can mix each type of flake (tropical with veggie flakes, etc.) with certain percentages of each.

I was using wardley but then I realized the flakes are made by the hartz company. Hartz has done nothing good. Their cat and dog flea medicine has killed alot of pets, the small animal food contains toxic preservatives that cause cancer as well as tons of sugars which causes diabetes for guinea pigs and dwarf hamsters, and the only single good product they have is softwood animal bedding. Chances are the flakes aren't that great for one reason or another and even if they are it's a company I'd rather see out of business.

tetra and hikari stuff all the way for me- although im finding the sera granulated foods handy for reticent and outcompeted feeders, you could try them.

They dont seem to be that appealing to the immediate feeders when first thrown in with regular flakes, but as they soften up and drift about in the midwater of a tank for around 15 minutes, they soften and become more palateable, which face it is a dead handy property for a fish food as it gives slower feeders a chance away from the frenetic activity near the surface. Much better than tetra prima which is advertised as slowly sinking- and frankly goes to the bottom pretty fast.

Sometimes using tablet foods like tetra tabimin is handy for those fish that will take food from the bottom, as again its a bit hard to eat immediately, and so is available long after the big food rush at the surface water.
