I would like to alter my 50 gallon community into one that includes afew larger residents with more "character" than just common livebearers (dont get me wrong, the livebearers shall be kept as they are an interesting group). I was thinking at least an elephant nose, although I am without a clue of their requirements (shall be checking the profile). Butterfly fish also seem somwhat appealing. Possibly angels????? Furthermore, I need any decor suggestions that would allow my aquarium to resemble more closely the natural environments of these species (not sure whether they originate from different biomes). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Here is a link to a thread about elephantnoses. I was thinking about getting one too.
A list of all the inhabitants of your tank would be helpful. That way we could see what could be added.

Thanks girliegirl, the link was helpful although I seem to be finding some conflicting information. The tank's entire stock is all dependent upon what all of you suggest. I probably would like to keep my small pleco for cleanup as well as my cory school (although this is tentative). Im mainly looking for striking and/or unusual combinations.

Focusing on one area (ex: South America) would be cool. You could get fish from that particular area and also plants. Search under the profiles section for a specific area to see what fish are from there. Also do a google search for an area and see what comes up.
I like my tetras, though they are not very striking or unusual. I like my cories too.
I don't know much about African Butterfly Fish. They do seem pretty cool though. I think they will eat smaller fish, so if you are thinking about getting one keep that in mind.
Angelfish are very pretty. Just don't keep them with nippy fish. I am going to get one or two for my 55g. People in the cichlid forum suggested getting either one or three. Two can be aggressive if not a breeding pair. Getting atleast 3 hopefully allows two of them to pair off and prevent aggression. You could get the 3 small ones and see if 2 pair off. Check out that forum for more info.
These are my suggestions. I will leave it up to others to give more specific info about the fish you suggested. Also maybe others can help you out with unusual fish. I only have two aquariums and I am still learning. Good luck!
