I just bought my first German Ram. I have him in my 55 gallon with a beta that has been hanging out in there for 3 weeks. Think they will fight? The first sign of fin picking and im moving beta to the 30 gallon. I also bought a yo yo loach. I also have a few beta tanks to put beta in if he gets picked on or is the picker. SO far they are cool.. They checked each other out. There are hiding places.

In case you don't know this. water change, water change, water change. Do alot of water changes, preferably twice at minimum 20% once a week. Blue Rams are very sensitive to water conditions like discus.

I've had a betta kill a blue ram before. But that was in a 10-gallon tank. I think your ram will have more room to escape, so you might not have that problem. Good luck!

The new Ram has acclimated nicely. He has eaten his first dinner of flakes, blood worms, and pellets. The discussion about always keeping these guys in pairs: Male/Female or Male/Male? This little guy is quite colorful!

Rams prefer company and either gender mix will work. Most ram agression is contained between rams and generally doesn't cause any real harm. Spawning pairs have killed off other rams in small tanks but if you only have 2 that's not a problem. My only problem with rams was when I kept them in a fairly open tank in a high traffic area of my house. They didn't color up as well and some died off after a few weeks. I mostly lost the females. In my well planted 55g they got some amazing color. Yoyo loaches should be in groups of 6 but try to at least get 4. They definitely don't like to be alone and will fade their stripes alot more as well as being less active. Even numbers of yoyos is better. They've also turned agressive on occasion in groups of 3 or less.

The rams do look great, especially in the beginning, but don't be fooled by that. They will eventually decline if their water conditions are not meet.

So if you take care of the water your rams will be fine.
I also don't think they do well with any kind of stress.
So if there is an aggressive fish with them that could lead to health problems as well.

As I posted in cichlid central(was trying to identify a different looking ram..why I posted there) I got my ram an pal. His pectoral fin was picked a little bit. The LFS gave him to me for free since last night I bought my first one and it was buy one get one free. How long do you guys think it will take for his fin to mend? I also ordered a Dojo for my 30 gallon and a few more Yoyo's for my 55 gallon.

I've noticed that bettas just get plain crabby with fish of similar size. My friend's betta always flared his gills at one female guppy...not really at the other fish. The female guppy was close to the bettas size and the others were small. I guess you need to know the attitude of the betta. I would just get a paradise fish instead

I've got a fever... and the only prescription... is more cowbell!
