How do i get rid of hundreds of malaysian trumpet snails, in a tank without any fish?.

The tank is full of them, but i just took all the fish out, so i will redo this tank in a Planted one. So first i want to get rid of the Snails, change the gravel & everything else. I tried the copper, lettuce & fishing them out tricks, but they are still there.

I don't want to add a CL, as i want to redo this tank in 2 weeks time.

Any help is highly welcome.

I had 2 Yoyo Loaches in it, but i don't think that they ate any Snails.

Do you think that MTS have a tough shell & cannot be eaten by Loaches?.

Yes, that's what i taught, empty it & let it dry out, but Snails are pests & they would come back.

i heard that it is too hard for them to eat..well, how about drying it and rinse it with water for several times?By the way, red clawed crayfish would eat those snails..i used to have it sometime ago and it ate all snails including the MTS.

depending on the size, try a clown loach or two. i have this same problem in my 55g, set it up with live plant, then got heavy with snails, drained the tank let it sit for 2 weeks. went to reset it up with artificial plants, and still snails in it.

i havent been able to find anything good for a community tank that will eat them cept for the clowns. and i cant find yoyo's near me.

Fish tanks are an expensive addiction

Since there aren't any fish in the tank, try dosing it with coppersafe (I know you said you tried copper, but I'm guessing pennies?) . I had an external parasite problem in my tigerbarb tank which happened to be full of those little ramshorn snails. One dose of that stuff and every single one of those buggers was killed in about a week.

If you change all the gravel clean the filter and wash that tank but good, you won't need the copper med..

Yo Yo loaches and clowns don't do much against MTS snails the shells are ALOT harder...

I have a snail prob in my 10g, am changing the whole tank and filter anyways... Any decor or plants going from old to the new will be snail-dipped.

First why do you want to get rid of them? I added mts to my planted tanks on purpose. 2nd cupramine by seachem will kill them. You dose once each day the first 2days and then leave it for 2weeks but all my snails I left in there were dead within the first 4 days. Cupramine can also be removed by chemical filtration and will not absorb into the substrate or decorations like other types of copper. Often times when you use other types of copper you can never put inverts in that tank again. I was actually trying to kill leeches but it worked great if I was trying to kill the mts. Mts not only have hard shells but doors on their shells so the only way for loaches to kill them in most cases is to surprise them and get them before they close up. Usually when you think the mts were all killed by the loaches they have just learned to hide in the substrate instead of being out in the open where they can get ambushed. Loaches are useful for keeping mts hiding out of sight and keeping the population from getting too big.

Today i emptied all the tank & tomorrow i'll clean the filter, so that i'll get rid off all the snails. I will also give a good scrub to all the tank.

The tanks is a 120 Litre & i am planning to have a sand substrate (just 5mm) & some Anubia's attached to Driftwood. As fish, i will only go for 10 Tetra's & 10 Corydoras.
