Just wanted to know the best ways to feed these, i hear they like bugs? is that true, what types of bugs should i be getting for it?

Also i hear they eat anything that they can fit into there mouth, would they be able to fit rummynose's in there? I want a school of them later down the track.

Also should i know anything else about the fish?

cheers

Very nice fish, you could use crickets, tubefex worms, soggy floating chiid pellets, frozen bloodworms, even flake and any other floating food.

What I can say is FLOATING PLANTS and lots of them, also no escape routes as they find the places to jump out of (screen works well).
I also heard from someone they are nearly blind..

As to your rummynose, I have not kept these fish before. Are they top swimmers, middle swimmers or bottom dwellers?
I'd stick to middle and bottom dwellers and maybe get larger ones.

As for there mouths they are HUGE, almost freaky.

These are one of my coolest fish very mellow but pretty.

Hope this helps
Angel Eel

EDIT: There is nothing that comes to mind that you should know unless you have something else in the tank.
What size? What tankmates otherwise?

So i will getting other fish that he won't eat.

They look pretty funky, are they pretty hard to keep do you have to make sure the water parameters are right all the time?

cheers

HI!
I'm not an amazing aquarium keeper, and also a begginer, yet I got an african butterfly. I love it! It's very peacrful(even the danios go right up to it and it ignors them!) I feed mine shrimp pellets(just have to make sure that there is alot of food around them as they only eat what is right above them)!
I love mine!

I've heard that they can live for 4 to 6 years don't qoute me though

My guys like bloodworms but don't make that the staple. I noticed with bloodworms they get sick of them very quick.

Also I don't know if they wil eat your feeders, if they are top dwellers they will but there food has to be most of the time right on top of them for them to eat it.

Watch out for feeder dieases if they eat them.

Congrats!!! hope he/she likes the new tank.

well i really need to organise a stocking list for my tank, and i guess it will have to be organised around the butterfly fish.

I really want a school of rummynose, but i fear that Mr. Butterfly will have a bit of a munch, but they are a quite big tetra. So i don't know for sure, can anyone help me with that? Or should i be safe then sorry?

What do you guys keep with ur butterfly fish?

cheers

I have two annoying danios, two guppies, two corries and three head/tail light tetras.....the butterfly ignors them all!

i had one for several months before it jumped out of a VERY tightly closed tank. it always stayed within my fake floating plant mats- it would only venture out a few inches into "open water." due to its body design, it is incapable of diving into the depths of a tank. mine would chomp fry that came close to its mouth (motion close to its personal space would set it into "jaws" mode), but would ignore fry directly underneath it. rummynose should be fine. mine loved moths and small crickets. anything that splashed on the surface became lunch.

once in awhile, around 2am, i would hear skipping on top of the water. when i would get to the tank, it would be back in its plastic plant comfort zone.

a great fish to care for- unfortunately, it has become rather scarce in my area. enjoy!

also how do owners of this wicked fish feed it? do you just let the bugs float until he decides he wants it, or do you hold it just above the water??

Let em float till they get it!

In my tank I have him with ANgelfish, Corydoras and of course themselfs, two butterflys.

When I first put them in I had 6 corys that were just babys and they didn't even notice them.

NOW I am not saying they wont attack anything small....

I will say that IME I have noticed that if the fish in question is over an inch they don't care...
