For the last two weeks I have been trying to net the last of the starter Zebra Danios.

It is in the Betta tank heavly planted including the complete rear of the tank with stem plants about 2ins wide.

I have left the net in many times overnight and during the day as well.

The little stinker is chasing and anoying the small cardinals to the point they will not come out.

I want to add the M Bettas as soon as I can.

If the Betta decides chase him it will not worry me at all.

I am open to any worth while method, other than stripping the tank down.

Keith

I always manage to accidentally get one zebra up my gravel vac when doing tank maintence.

You could also try the soda bottle trick, although I'm sure the zebra is small enough that It'll easily get back out. Cut the neck off a clear soda bottle. Flip it around and reattach so it funnels back in on itself. Use some food inside to set the trap and wait for the fish to swim in.

I'm assuming you've also tried netting in the middle of the night?

Keith,

Put in the Betta. I don’t know what would happen then, but it safe you a lot of frustration.

I once tried to get my danios out and all I got was 1 of 7 while messing with plants and decoration in the process. The bottle is a good idea, I tried that as well. After working on the bottle for an hour and lowering it in the tank, EVERY fish wanted to get in there, but not the danios. In the end I gave up and accepted that I will have them until they die or I strip down the tank.

I try to think about it this way: They helped me to get the tank started so I owe them.

Stay calm,

Ingo

Try to catch it at night. That way it's more easy & try to get the biggest net possible.
The bottle trick is also very good, but it will take time.

Good luck, the little stinkers are masters at avoiding the net, esp. with a lot of cover around. maybe place a glass in the tank, on its side and perhaps use the net to chase him into the glass and remove him trapped in the glass? I read that trick here but it didn't work worth a darn on my yo-yos

The reason why I fishless cycle. I don't wish to attempt catching anymore danios. Aside from trying fish traps like the soda bottle I don't know. I ended up draining the tank.

Did you try feeding them peas to keep them busy and have you also tried taking a quarter of the water out so they have less space to swim in?

On a saturday with nothing to do and a migraine me too!!

on the Zebra danio front. the only way I have ever caught the little wosits is with two huge nets and one VERY messed up tank. chase with one catch with the other. of course you catch every other fish in the tank.

I d leave it in there!

I d best go lie down

Hi Keith

I was chasing some very quick black widow tetras yesterday who were very tricky to catch. I think they knew the net was for them because they had been naughty and were being sent back to the LFS - they were hiding and everybody else was swimming on the top looking for attention! It took quite a while but with the help of my boyfriend, a net, a jug and a woodspoon we managed to heard them into the jug. I ended up removing all my rocks and driftwood and I took about 20% of the water out but we got their in the end. Having an extra person plus an instrument, in my case the wooden spoon, to heard them out of the plants and block their way certainly helped. It wasn't a quick process though!

Good luck

Keith I discovered when trying to remove everyone that a bigger net is sometimes easier. That way you can sneak up on them and swoop across the tank and get the boogers...of course you will always have one that is going to drive you crazy, if you finally give up, then put your betta boy in the tank, and let him have a go at the booger

I took out 25% water change and used two nets. Now the Cardnals are out for the first time.

I was at the point of a full pull out of all stem plants in two days time.
