As they get extremely large, both horizontally, as well as vertically. If you will be adding additional fish, then you will need to make sure you have enough additional room for the additional fish. There is always a bigger fish... |

So I'd decide on one or the other. If you go with the tiger barbs I'd defintinely add at least 3 more as they are shoaling fish and do much better in shoals of at least 6. Also hopefully it will keep them from nipping at any other fish. You may also want to add a few more loaches too, about 3 more of those would be nice. |

When it gets big, it will most likely try to eat your mollys and the other smaller fish. A good rule of thumb regarding that is to make sure that none of your fish can fit inside the mouth of any of your other fish, since big fish do eat small fish. Also, since giant gouramis tend to be semi-aggressive, especially with other gouramis, you may end up with some fighting. If you do decide to get one, I would consider selling it once it got very large (that's what I'm doing with mine) or putting it with fish that are more compatable with it. Oh, and one last thought... since they can be aggressive, you might want to think about putting a more aggressive fish with it to calm it down. Mine is with an opaline gourami and a paradise fish. It's an odd mix, I know, but it's working to keep the whole calm for my peaceful fish. Well, good luck with whatever you decide. ![]() |
