Of course now, being 32, I would have fed him to the fishes myself. This has really upset me now poor little lad. ]:|]:|]:|]:|]:|]:|]:|]:|

Yeah agreed this isnt nice, back when i was a boy (long ago LOL) I would have told my dad. He would have been down there like a shot. That LFS assistant would have wished it was him that had been fed to the fishes after my dad would have finished with him.

Sorry, but part of me finds this kind of funny, but yeah he should have waited for the kid to leave. When i was young i would have thought it was cool to watch um get eaten up.

...But that's kind of what feeders (hence the name) are meant for.

She could be one of those people who thinks a goldfish is better off in a bowl than in another fish's mouth. One time at work this lady came in with a 1 gallon bowl and asked for five feeder goldfish.

"You aren't planning to keep these goldfish in that bowl, are you?"
*She gives me a strange look*
"Yes... I'm going to save them from death!"

Ummm, NO. Needless to say, she didn't get her goldfish.

it is defanatly wrong to do that in front of a young child. but what i find funny is that one if my coworkers went to a local fish store to buy some feeders for his pirahnas and the lady at the fish store wouldnt sell it to him after she asked what he was going to do with them.

How could they do that in front of a kid? I don't care if they did it after lights were out, but daggum it, in front of the kid and customers? And being a kid he wasn't thinking, oh here are my babies, I'll give them to the lfs to feed the big ugly fish, he's thinking ok I'll get money, or they will get a better home...What a crock...

It was extremely rude for the store owner to do that right in front of the child.

That saidm, from a LFS employee's point of view however, feeding the fry to other fish is what I would have done as well, just not with the child around. Pretty much no LFS is willing to spend the time and money to raise fry of an absolutely abundant fish, so I feel that it was appropriate to use them as live food. We often do this when people bring in hundreds (litterally) of young guppies or cichlids in, and many customers actually like to watch us feed them to larger fish.

We also put on a show at the store when somebody brings us a footlong oscar at the store (usually in really bad shape) that we have no room to care for. Once the person who brings in the fish leaves, we put it in with our 4' long Amazon Redtail Cat and let the show begin. Sometimes we have about 20 people in front of the giant tank rooting for the catfish. Luckily, the catfish is extremely dumb and it can take her up to half an hour to find and eat the oscar.

One day i went to a lfs and there was a young boy with a bag with 20-30 molly fry.
He asked if the lfs wanted them.
The owner said sure and took them.I was looking at some fish at that time, then he came with the bag (to the tank i was looking at). the boy gave him and tossed them in a tank with chiclids and other speices. With in a min or so all the fry was eaten
Man i was really angry...but what could i say..the boy just stood there and watch his fry got eaten.I could see that he was not happy..rather shocked..some people don't even care..]:|..

I know human beings and fish can co-exist peacefully.

My question is, were the fry big enough for them to sell? Otherwise, what else can he do with them? Any tank that the lfs put them in would have been futile.

Of course, he really should have waited for the boy to leave...

I have some 4 week old swordtail fry that I am raising until the are an inch to an inch and a half, then giving to my lfs...hopefully they won't suffer the same fate...

I think both ways....that poor kid, I seen a 15 year old almost cry when my stupid boyfriend told him that his fish we were buying were going to the oscars...NOT A GOOD IDEA!!!

But all in all everything has to eat as was said.

Oh... that's so sad! The idiot could at least have waited until the boy left! No need to do that to someone so young! *fumes*

I know when I dropped off some of my guppies, that I made sure to ask that they wouldn't be used as feeders. The response was "oh, no, these are fancy guppies, not commons... they wouldn't be used as feeders." I'm glad I asked... even though I went back soon thereafter and didn't see my girls. Either someone bought them all or, well, I'm glad to know that I did my best. I'm so sorry someone had to go through that, though, and wasn't old enought to know what might happen!
