At the moment I have a 30 gallon with plants and a mostly empty 10 gallon (3 zebra danios). I know I need to take down the 30 gallon, but I want to take the 10 gallon to college. So I need help deciding what fish to put in there. I'm thinking either killifish or rams (I've kept both before) Also, I want to transfer at least some of the plants from the 30 gallon to the 10 gallon, but I'm worried that they'll die in there because they have in the past. I use ferts and I'm going to get a new light, but I'm still afraid it won't be enough. The plants I have are java fern, anubias, and crypts. |

Posts: 2623 Kudos: 2462 Votes: 337 Registered: 29-Mar-2003 ![]() | First congratulations, where are you going for college? Now something you need to find out where are you staying? Dorm room? How much room will you have there? Roommates? What are the "laws" on pets? Do they specifically say anything about the size of tank you can have? Some have a rule about cats and dogs, but fish are ok in my experience my fish tanks more messes than the can and dog![]() Unless there is something that says no you can't have a tank over 2.5 ounces then take the 30 gallon with you especially if there is room and if the tank requirements are only up to say a 20 gallon, the 30 would probably slide in ok, unless the person checking things out is really into fish and goes into measuring and doing the figuring of what size it really is ok so i'm going into breaking the rules or bending them some what's a couple more gallons of water, really![]() So my opinion take the 30 if you have the room and your roomy won't mind too much, if they do then you need to reprogram their brains into thinking that fish tanks are better than TVs and then you could get two in the room ![]() Really find out what the place/dorm/campus/apts will allow before you break down and go with the 10 gallon...there might not be any real restrictions ![]() heidi "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." Just check that there will be space, and that it's properly supported.Other than that you should have no problem with those plants in a 10 gallon tank. Just make sure you've got approx 2wpg of daylight floro over it, and java fern loves CO2 btw, so if there's anyway to hide a CIY CO2 bottle you're set ^_^
Only 13 dives and they're already calling [link=me]http://babelfish.qwertydigital.com/" style="COLOR: #EB4288[/link] a![]() ![]() |

I brought my 20 gal to school last year and it kept me out of trouble and also brought a few people in the room saying wow FISH! Good Luck and congrates! 19G Container Pond [IMG]http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y118/Wingsdlc/Ric |

chipz![]() Fingerling Posts: 15 Kudos: 12 Votes: 0 Registered: 31-Mar-2005 ![]() | I'm leaving for college in August too, but luckily my parents have agreed to take care of my 5 fish tanks, despite my offers to take at least a few of them down. I'm planning to take a small tank with me, but I haven't decided what size. I'd love to bring a 12 gallon eclipse (rules say no more than 10 gallons at my school, but I figure it's close enough). My recommendation is to have something very hardy, especially if you plan to take them home for summers. So I personally wouldn't choose the rams, but some killis might work.~Lisa |
