i was not sure where to post this but i'll post it here. Would it be alright to grow algae on rocks in a tub or dish or whatever in a sunny window or outside with a cover(keep the mosquitoes out) on? Fall is coming pretty quikly and i wont be able to feed my ottoes and plecs any squash from the garden. Would i have to worry about parasites? I am not interested in algae wafers because these always get stolen from them.

arent there other vegetables u could get from the store?

To answer your first question, yes I think it would be alright to do that. As long as you use clean rocks and water and cover the top I don't see any way that parasites could get into it.

I dont know if it is the same where you live but when vegetables are out of season here, they are smaller, have less taste and are more expensive.

clownloachfan,

Read the article from Calilasseia called [link=A Word About Otocinclus]http://www.fishprofiles.com/articles/freshwater/oto.asp" style="COLOR: #ff6633[/link].

He talks about readying algae for the Otos.

Hope this helps,

That's a good idea but you can also freeze the vegetables when they are cheap & use them when you need.
