How, what and where do you get the "food" in the first place? Thanks in advance Regards Dave |

Many live foods are easy to get at an LFS, a local bait shop or through the magic of the internet. Many places can get you starter cultures of just about any bug out there for your fishies. After that, it's just up to you to keep them alive and breeding to feed your fish. What fish are you looking to feed? Brine Shrimp hatcheries can be bought at most decent aquarium stores, along with the eggs (get 'shell-less' Artemia for best results, and feed them with yeast and a tiny amount of liquid fry food). Daphnia and Bloodworm are ideal for pond culture if you have a pond. If not, any large container filled with water will house them. |

All you need is a jar and some ingrediants to mix up food. Fish love fruit flies. |

I grow maggots in the green house (slice of luncheon meat or similar in a flowerpot with no holes it & two pots on top with holes) but this sticks the house out. I also collect rain water in a bucket in the garden & let it stay there for a month or so & it seams to grow daphnia which I net & put in the tank - but one bucket doesn't grow much. Lastly i did up earth worms from the garden (my peacock & gold serverum love them). But buying it from the LFS is my main one. I buy once per month as a treat & feed frozen the rest of the time. I'm going try online soon. hope this helps?! |

For Microworms you must get a starting culture & for Brine Shrimp you must have a hatchery & buy the eggs. Both are quite easy to do. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.geocities.com/s8xi5heh/classic_blue.html http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |
