I just bought two female guppies from my LFS and placed them in my 2ft Tank. I was looking to breed them with one of my male guppies, so I looked up information on them on the internet, and found out that if they have a black spot at the end of their anal fin, they are pregnant. I looked at one of the female guppies to find that one of them has a black spot. I think she must have gotten pregnant at the LFS. Anyway, I was wondering if there was any way to tell how far into the pregnancy she is. She's not fat yet, so I suppose she isn't too far into the pregnancy, but I'm not really sure as I haven't bred guppies before. Is there any advice on breeding, or any way to tell how far she is into the pregnancy? Please help.

If they came from a M/F tank at a store, odds are shes already pregnant.

It could have been pregnant before you bought it, as sometimes, stores keep them mixed.

I have had several guppy breeding experiences, and know a few things about it. When my guppy was pregnant, her underside had a spot, which varied in a brownish and reddish color ,and grew larger as the process continued. One of my females started to jerk around and not swim so smoothly a day or two before having the young. I have never actually seen the exact time that they came out, so I can't help much there. Once out and swimming, I stuck the young in a breeders net, and if any others come later on just added them too. I didn't do anything special with mine for feeding, i just grinded flakes to tiny pieces and fed them with that, and released them once they were big enough to not be eaten by the parents (about 2 weeks, and (1 1/5 to 2cm long).

Good Luck!!!
