If you want personality try gouramis as they can range from the extreme aggressive to the very peacful, they will also learn who their owner is and come up to the front of the tank when ever you walk into the room after a while!

Corys also have great personalitys! They need to be kept in groups of atleast 6 long term but you can have 2 or even 3 differnt species in the school as long as there is a pair of each type.

Like I have 3 panda corys and 3 shwartzi corys, they school together and have real personalitys as they are always helping each other and playing chasey! They are really cute.

I am not to good with cichlids but for your size tank any type of dwarfs would be ok, like maybe a pair or trio, I am not to sure about the others though they might get ot big.

Bristle -nose catfish are good bottom feeders and they will keep your tank free from algae, they grow to about 4-6" and are only aggressive if there is not enough hiding places or bogwood. (1 piece of bogwood per bristle-nose catfish)

A school of tetras might be nice but maybe not with big cichlids.

Go to your local fish store and look around, see what you like and write them down, then coem and tell us and we can tell what to put and what not to put.

I dont' know very much about loaches as I haven't had much experience wiht them.

Good Luck!

Looking for a dwarf Cichlid that will be peacful yet have personality?

Try my perennial favourite among the non-Rift Africans, nammely Anomalochromis thomasi.

Here are some nice pics and some info.

Instead of just getting a pH test kit, it is WAY cheaper in the end to get a Master Test Kit [link=like this one]http://shop.petsmart.com/product/2534374302023693/282574488339117/845524441776772.htm" style="COLOR: #CAFB0B[/link]. You will save a LOT of money buying a kit like this. The only thing it doesn't come with is a hardness test (GH/KH) so you may want to purchase that separately.

cichlids and ret tailed sharks are tricky to tank together. they share the same space and are both territorial. loaches and a red taield shark is a huge mistake im sure of that. loaches resemble sharks far to much and the shark will get testy. ( in this size tank )

to make life easier i would hold off on the shark till you have a larger tank to play with. this will allow you many more options.

ok, just test the water out of the tap.

that just gives us a rough idea of what you have got available to work with

mixing cichlids and goramies isn't always the best plan, and finding small cichlids with big personalities is a bit of a challenge.

you may well be limited to kribensis and rams, but i'll let a cichlid person come and help you out there.

With the RTBS, what size tank are you going to upgrade to? because that mat prove a bit off a problem.

Also, what is the pH of your tap water, and what filter are you running on this tank?

labrakitty, youre right about the Gouramis, we have a dwarf red at work, i am the one who pays most attention to the tank, when i go up to the tank, he comes over and chases off the 2 new guinea rainbows and guppies (doesnt mess with the Angel though). I f anyone has a look in the tank he jst stays at the back.

would a red dwarf be ok with a Redtailed Black shark
and Cyclid ??????????? ANYONE?

Hi there, just got a nice second hand tank, 81 litre cleaned it all up.

I really want 3 or 4 fish 4 - 6 inches each.

I dont mind smaller interesting fish suggestions from those of you with experience.

I am interested in Cichlids, I also really want a Red tailed black shark there as well, there are some in my LFShop that are about 1inch long ( i am getting abigger tank in a couple o months so i will move it later!)

I like loaches, anything that looks like a perch or a pike, I would like a cafish as well.

I am looking for fish with real personalities!!!

to be honest please someone who knows what they are talking about, who would select in my situation, an exciting tank of that litreage or can suggest one would be much appreciated.

I have talked about what I have learned on this excellent site to my friend who is a bit of a fish expert and he has suggested (for now) 1 * firemouth or maybe a smaller cichlid, the red tailed black shark ( to be moved later) and maybe a britle nosed Catfish.

PLEASE HELP

THIS IS A CHALENGE !!!! MAKE HAPPY !!!!!!!!!!!!!

ALL THE BEST, THANKS IN ADVANCE

RESPECTFULLY

LEON

Pufferfish, IMO, are VERY personable--not that I'm a "serious expert" aquarist, though, as you so put it.

well i am not sure how big the tank is l=??G, (not good at math) n.e way
4 a cichlid-small. i would go with a krib or two. a firemouth i don't really know much about.

loaches- since u are getting a new tank try getting small clown loaches and as they grow move them to the bigger tank.

if u like the way pike's look like, try magigasian rainbow fish. it is peaceful, but i think it looks alot like a pike cichlid.

good luck with your tank.

o p.s with a cat, again don't know the tank size, if small go with a otto, but for a bigger tank- cories, pelco, pitcus.
