I had to move my 20 gallon and when I was removing the plants I found a baby cory. He's 1/5 inch long, from the tip of his nose to the tip of his tail. I have taken him out of the tank and put him in a 2.5 gallon with nothing in it. Do I need a heater or a filter? How often and what do I need to feed him? Can anyone tell by his size when he was born? Thanks for your help!

First congratulations
If it were my choice I'd keep him in the 20 gallon. I feel that it is rather hard imo to keep the water quality in a 2.5 gallon constant, and without problems. He will need filtration no matter where he is, and he will need the temperatures to remain in more of a constant, just as the adults do Do you know what kind of cory fry it is? I know I'm forever finding metae fry swimming around and it's always a joy in my opinion to find As for how big they are when they are born? All I can say is TINY!!! As far as what to feed him? Mine so far pretty much just eat whatever else is in the tank with them...thus keeping them in a stabalized tank that has been running in a plus, as there are all sorts of nummies they can find...Here is a pic of one I found back in April (it was my first I found) and to the best I can figure s/he was maybe a week old at the time heidi

The reason I had to move the tank is because I am putting down a new floor in about two weeks. After I am done I will be moving the tank again. Do you think I should wait to put him back? I filled the 2.5 with water from the 20 gallon, and the levels are the same, but it's only been about four hours.

He is a peppered cory.

Congratulations for the little Peppered Corydoras. Do a little check & try to find more, as they might be hiding somewhere in the tank.
Feed him some Brine Shrimp & some green matter foods.

Since you've already moved it, don't do it again until the 20-gallon is set.

As Jason said, check, and check, and check again carefully if you had one you are bound to have more, just remember how tiny they are, thus meaning you are going to have to look very carefully, mainly don't focus on finding a fish/fry itself, but for movement that is "unexplained".

And just keep an eye on the 2.5. If it's only going to be a couple of weeks you should be ok. Be sure you have some sort of filtration, though you are going to want to be sure that the intake is covered, and it is on low suction...and make sure the temperature doesn't drop too much or jump too high, you don't want the fluctuations And if you had any live plants in the 20 gallon, see if you can pull a couple smaller ones out to put in the 2.5, thus giving the little guy a place to hide, and there will be little microbes on these plants the little guy can nibble from between meals
