They don't require live plants, but live plants are very usefull in tanks & if you're using any Algae killing treatment, just stop now, do a water change & you can plant your plants. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.geocities.com/s8xi5heh/classic_blue.html http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

Male livebearers can be very aggressive about mating and will tortue a single female. |

However, this may prove difficult as it is not easy to find the females. You see, the males are much more colorful and vibrant than the females are and fish stores don't carry too many of them bacause they don't sell as well. It seems most people like the vibrant, colorful males and buy them. As for live plants, they don't need them but do like them very much, as you will find. dwarf gouramis do like vegetable matter and mine much on plants all the time. Also, as for chemicals for algae, don't use them. Most are herbicides and will harm your plants as well. Anyway, your gouramis will eat algae. Mine helped keep the plastic plants nice and clean. I thought they were nuts, eating plastic, but then once when I tossed in some algae wafers for my pleco they started munching them too. Water quality, however is important to them, they need good, clean water. They are susceptible to a lot of maladies but can be kept very nicely and healthy by maintaining pristine water conditions. Oh, and they are rather skittish fish who like lots of hiding places. Last edited by divertran at 07-Jun-2005 12:12 |
