Well fed ones can be pretty fat. However, if you've got pinecone scales, dropsy may be at fault. On the other hand, pop-eye is a general symptom that something is wrong. Something. Sometimes pop-eye accompanies other diseases, but it can also be brought about purely by deteriorating water quality. Often I find that after a few water changes the fish can recover all on their own from this symptom. However, be aware that something else may be lurking, so to speak, and so you have to keep your eyes peeled to make sure nothing else is wrong. -------------------------------------------- The aquarist is one who must learn the ways of the biologist, the chemist, and the veterinarian. |
