| Hard water etching | |
cichlidiot![]() Hobbyist Posts: 142 Registered: 14-Apr-2004 ![]() | I recently received a free aquarium. The problem is that the glass has been hard water etched. How can I get rid of hard water etching on the inside of the glass? |

I got a 20 Long with an eclipse 3 hood on it, and the tank was this way. I tried so hard to get it off. But when you fill the tank up with water, you wolnt see the hard water stains (but if you take pictures of the tank, they will show up) If im not mistaken, someone told me to use Tea Tree oil to take them out (if they havent penetrated into the glass) |

Be careful using hot water, dont want to crack the tank. Good luck. Last edited by Lindy at 15-Mar-2005 05:26 Before you criticize someone walk a mile in their shoes. That way you're a mile away and you have their shoes. |

You can agitate hard stains with a stiff bristled nylon brush or a razor blade, just don't cut yourself. |

You just apply with a damp sponge and let it sit a few minutes, then rub away with the sponge and rinse well. It cleaned up my canopy when I was ready to give up on it. . My plants were very greatful for the improved lighting. I needed sunglasses to look at my tank and had no idea just how much it was hindering good lighting. The under side of the canopy is exposed to water splash and having used it twice, never created a problem for my fish. You may want to use the "Contact the Lab" at Jungle's site above (upper RH corner) and just ask them if it can be used inside of empty aquariums to be sure. I'm almost positive that it can be, but they are excellent with returning emails quite quickly. I often get a same day response, or within 24-48 hours during business days. Places like Petsmart carry it in bigger bottles. Well worth having on hand. Good luck. Diane ![]() Last edited by Cory_Di at 15-Mar-2005 08:17 |
