I am trying to find info on something called a water dog. I'm not sure of the proper name, but it can breathe air out of the water for a few hours at a time, and also has gills. Used to have one years ago, but when I try to google it, I get a bunch of references to Portugese Water Dogs (go figure). Any help and/or info would be greatly appreciated.

Missy

Yeah, dog fish are a kind of small shark, and they certainly can't breate air for a few hours.

What you're describing sounds like a lungfish. Try looking that up.

Isn't "water dog" just another term for a salamander or newt. Try searching under those terms.

Is it a Mud Skipper? Or a Mud Puppy?

You'll probably find more information searching "Axolotl". It's a type of newt sometimes called a fish but really isn't.

although mudpuppies and mexican walking fish are different, they are related. Think of mudpuppies as good old American axoloties.
