This sounds kinda odd, but I have rock (moss stone) that would look really good in a tank with alot of ground cover all around it. The rock is about 1 1/2 feet long by 1 foot tall. Does anyone know if a rock that size would crack the bottom of an aga tank.

I guess I should call the company, but just curious if anyone knew.

That's pretty large, but probably weighs no more than many rocks stacked on top of each other when forming caves, etc., but to be on the safe side it wouldn't hurt to call the manufacturer, or e-mail them anyways. You probably will need to know the weight when you do call though.

What size of tank do you have? Any idea how thick the glass is? Those two facts will definetly help in answering your question. But, actually I think you should be fine...

I have close to 75 pounds of gravel, and about 100 lbs of rock (I think) and it's been that way for quite sometime, and we are doing fine

If your concerned you could try to install some eggcrate but you would probably have to take out the substrate

It's a 46 gallon Bowfront. I guess I'll try to call manuf after finding out weight. I don't think I want to remove substrate.

Just to give you an idea...

Here's racso's 46g bowfront with sand and rocks stacked to make caves. Granted there are other factors like how the weight is spread out, etc...

Knowing the weight of the rock will really help dertermine of the tank can hold or not.

Ok can't get the image to show for some reason so here's the pic.

I have 125 pounds of rock on the bottom on my tank. Just don't drop it when you are putting it in there

Edit: Forgot to mention there is an additional 160 or so pounds of sand in there. So I have at least 200 pounds of stuff resting on the bottom glass, and then the water too.

It won't be a problem.

Thanks for your input, Nice rock work by the way.
My only concern is that this is one big roundest (egg shape) rock so the weight will be concentrated in the left back section of the aquarium.

If I find anything out from AGA I'll let you know.

Here's the response I got from AGA.

"As long as you do not put the pointed surface of the rock in the base of the tank or do not apply pressure on the fronts or ends, I think this will be fine. IF you are unsure you may want to talk to your pet store on set up tips as we only manufacture them and give out small technical support."

My lfs is the last place I would ask for advice on this.

All of my tanks have a small space where the tank sits on the stand. Underneath the edges. I fitted in a piece of styrofoam to add support under the tank so there is even pressure on the bottom, not just around the edges.

If I'm estimating right I'd say it's about the same size or smaller than my main rock...go for it, I'm sure your tank will hold it, mine certainly does without a fault...but like they said, don't just drop it into the tankset it down gently and all will be fine

and...
I have 125 pounds of rock on the bottom on my tank...there is an additional 160 or so pounds of sand in there
I know it's been a long week, and not a good one at that, but isn't that closer to 300 lbs?

I have a 50gal. tank and at one point I had a rock that weighed anywhere from 40 to 50 pounds in it and had no problem. Allthough it was on top of the substrate only partly burried.
