| Heaviest Rock - On Glass Bottom | |
tetratech![]() ![]() Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 4241 Kudos: 1074 Registered: 04-Nov-2003 ![]() | This sounds kinda odd, but I have rock (moss stone) that would look really good in a tank with alot of ground cover all around it. The rock is about 1 1/2 feet long by 1 foot tall. Does anyone know if a rock that size would crack the bottom of an aga tank. I guess I should call the company, but just curious if anyone knew. You probably will need to know the weight when you do call though. |

But, actually I think you should be fine... I have close to 75 pounds of gravel, and about 100 lbs of rock ( I think ) and it's been that way for quite sometime, and we are doing fine![]() heidi "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." tetratech![]() ![]() Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 4241 Kudos: 1074 Registered: 04-Nov-2003 ![]() | It's a 46 gallon Bowfront. I guess I'll try to call manuf after finding out weight. I don't think I want to remove substrate. My Scapes |

Here's racso's 46g bowfront with sand and rocks stacked to make caves. Granted there are other factors like how the weight is spread out, etc... Knowing the weight of the rock will really help dertermine of the tank can hold or not. Ok can't get the image to show for some reason so here's the pic.Last edited by gartenzwerfe at 29-Apr-2005 00:11 |

Just don't drop it when you are putting it in there Edit: Forgot to mention there is an additional 160 or so pounds of sand in there. So I have at least 200 pounds of stuff resting on the bottom glass, and then the water too. It won't be a problem. Last edited by lil_mikey69 at 29-Apr-2005 00:13 |

My only concern is that this is one big roundest (egg shape) rock so the weight will be concentrated in the left back section of the aquarium. If I find anything out from AGA I'll let you know. I fitted in a piece of styrofoam to add support under the tank so there is even pressure on the bottom, not just around the edges. ___________________________________________ If at first you DO succeed, try not to look astonished. |

Posts: 2623 Kudos: 2462 Votes: 337 Registered: 29-Mar-2003 ![]() | If I'm estimating right I'd say it's about the same size or smaller than my main rock...go for it, I'm sure your tank will hold it, mine certainly does without a fault...but like they said, don't just drop it into the tank set it down gently and all will be fineand... I have 125 pounds of rock on the bottom on my tank...there is an additional 160 or so pounds of sand in thereI know it's been a long week, and not a good one at that, but isn't that closer to 300 lbs? ![]() ![]() ![]() heidi Last edited by heidi michelle at 29-Apr-2005 19:43 "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." lowlight![]() Enthusiast Posts: 166 Kudos: 94 Registered: 03-Apr-2005 ![]() | I have a 50gal. tank and at one point I had a rock that weighed anywhere from 40 to 50 pounds in it and had no problem. Allthough it was on top of the substrate only partly burried. |
