Actually, I can. I have raised and bred them for over 6 years. Angelfish are not social hunters, nor are they exceptionally intelligent; rather, they are, both in the wild and in the home aquaria, ambush preadators, utilizing their laterally elongated bodies to blend in with tall bank vegetation. I highly doubt what you saw could actually be classified as "trap setting". Furthermore, why all the exclamation marks?

IMO, a 200 gallon full of blyxa and other fragile plants is too much of a hassle to keep in the long run.

Oh, and did I mention Denison Barbs, very good schooling fish. A little expensive though, I have only 2 of these at the moment.

Yup rainbows would be great. I would recommend the Praecox Rainbow or the Boesemani rainbow

I heard so much about rainbows, I have never kept them before, will this go well with the tank? I'll be sure to post pics when the tank is completed. It just missing a nice large piece of driftwood and fish.

Larger tetras (ie. congo) are more niipy than the smaller counterparts. I'd be cautious about the angels.

For that size tank I'd definitely try to increase the size of your schools. Personally I'd also go with a larger schooling fish, like the Congo tetra. Another small schooler option are harlequin rasboras.

For the bottom you could have a group of loaches in addition to the cories

Cherry barbs are very peaceful. Your probably thinking about a rosy barb. I have had cherrys for years in my 46g. They are very longed lived and they have never ever touched my other fish.

I would put 25 neons and 25 cardinals, 10-15 corys , 2 bushnose plecs, 20 green fire tetras, 15 cherry barbs, 15 white clouds.

Everything is set up and ready to go, water all cycle and the tanks look great. But...have no idea of what to put in the tank. So far the only current resident is 2 altums, 6 panda cory, 2 Agaszii Cory, and 10 neon. The tank is soon to be a med/heavy planted tank. Please help!

Has anyone ever seen Scalares hunting on a group of neons??? It's amazing!!! 2 male Scalares can literally set up a strategic plan in order to trap the neons!!! You cannot imagine how fast the Scalares can be when it comes to hunting!!!

200 Gallons??? WOW!!! Since as far as I know Reverse Osmosis Systems are much cheaper in the US than in Greece, it would be the perfect size for 10 Discus (preferably of the same kind), 40 rummynose tetras, 2m + 6f Agasiizi and 10 Cories. Plants: a group of Vallisnerias for background, Blyxa Japonica, 2 giant-size pieces of root with Anubias and some Echinodoruses... Simple and eye-catching!!! Believe me, Takashi Amano would be intimidated!!!

Friendly,

Apostolis

Only peruvian angels share biotopical relations with neons. Most found in the trade are tank bred, not to mention of standard negro/amazon red shoulder + silver blood, and thus are unlikely to be pre-programmed to eat neons. Examination of a wild peruvian butterfly angel stomach reveals a diet of mainly crustaceans, awfuchs (yeas, that's correct, they DO eat the stuff) and inverts. The F >1 lineage alone should be enough to convey that the angels no longer necessarily view the neons as food, as they have probably never seen one in their adult lives. Do neon fatalities occur? Sure they do. Is it a given that the two will not work out? By no means is this true. I've kept neons and cardinals with angels for as long as I've had the scalares. I've never had any problems, and believe me; I'm not the minority.

First thing I see is NO don't put angels in the tank with neons, in nature neons are the natural snack of an angel:#(

Next, yes you can put livebearers in the tank***ducks objects being thrown at her for saying yes, you can*** Ok now that everything is through being thrown at me, let me finish If you put livebearers in there you are going to become overstocked easily Livebearers do what comes naturally and that is breed, and breed, and breed...so if you want to put them in, make friends with someone at the lfs to sale them to, or someone who needs to feed their larger fish live food:#(, or go with only males

Now with that said, you have plenty of room to bump up your schools to 10-15 on your corriesthey will love it, and if you are lucky they will show you this by making you babies Now for the neons I'd go with a school of 20-35 in a tank this size...in my 125 I have a school of 22, and they are simply wonderful to watch school together

Well, that is my two cents, heidi michelle

i agree - more altums!! they are a special, special fish, and would look great in such a large tank. my 6 foot tank used to have 9 species in it, and now it has five - cories, royal whiptails, pencilfish, black phantoms, and a huge school of rummies - and i've never been happier with a tank in 27 years - my point being, i think you'll be really happy with adding more neons (who cares if the altums eat a few?) or another whole species in a big group, and more cories.

and as for guppies etc, of course you CAN keep them, but why WOULD you, except as a nice live food source for the altums?? IMO they are the mice of the water world - just as boring, just as brainless.

More & more Corydoras, 6 more Panda & 10 Agassizii. You can have 2/3 schools of big Tetras, like Rummynose, Emperor & Bleeding Heart. You can also add Rams, Bn's or Dwarf Pleco's.

Get 4 more Pandas and 6 more Aggasizis (spell?) The Neons are very very likely to get eaten by the Altums as they are a little larger than scalares. (common angelfish) I would give back the neons and get some rummy nose instead.

Then I would get:
8 pandas
8 aggazis
2 altums
20 rummy nose
10 congo tetras
2 bristle nose pleco (If you get algae?)
6 blue or bolivian rams 3m/3f
15 diamond or black neon tetras
What a great tank this would be...
