Gold Barbs (usually listed in textbooks under the invalid name Barbus schuberti) are in fact a colour variation of Barbus semifasciolatus. The original wild strain DOES have stripes. However, this fish is not it. It does look Barb-like at first sight, though to my eyes it also has elements of killifish to it. It appears to have a concave or forked tail, while killis have more squared-off tails. It's definitely a cyprinid, IMO. They have a variety of different style tails to them. Many are even rounded. There is always a bigger fish... |
