I have no clue what that is, but I can tell you it is most def not a gold barb.

Gold barbs do not have stripes.

Ah, Confusion clearup.

Gold Barbs (usually listed in textbooks under the invalid name Barbus schuberti) are in fact a colour variation of Barbus semifasciolatus. The original wild strain DOES have stripes.

However, this fish is not it.

It does look Barb-like at first sight, though to my eyes it also has elements of killifish to it. If it IS a Barb, it's not semifasciolatus because it isn't quite elongate enough.

I agree with you Cali, I was thinking it looked like a type or killi as well.

But look at the tail... It appears to have a concave or forked tail, while killis have more squared-off tails.

It's definitely a cyprinid, IMO.

There are all kinds of killis out there, just the most of the them that are available to hobbyist, are the more good looking variety and have the tails you mention. They have a variety of different style tails to them. Many are even rounded.

it is possible, that that fish is actuaslly a cold water fish, as it looks remarkably like sa pale chub (Zacco platypus)
