Ok so I'm starting off with a new 10g tank after like 4 years after my first. I got my filter, heater, thermometer, and soon to get a new hood and some penn-plax gemstones for gravel. Is there anything I'm missing? Also I figure I'm just gonna throw a Dinosaur Eel in the tank till I get my soon to have 20 or 30g. So is there any thing I need to regulate the water for it like a test kit or something?

Also the Petsmart on S.I. sells the fish small. The Dino Eels they have are 3in. the most, trust me. Same with all their fish which normally grow big. So I know a Dino Eel doesn't need all the space of a 20-30g tank alone, so for a month or two it's good in a 10g tank. So don't be like it wont survive, it's not enough spce, etc.

Decorations, conditioner, and some test kits should round out the basic needs.

At least kits for ammonia, nitrite and pH, and if you can find it, nitrate.

If you'll be upgrading the eel, at least cycle the tank not using the eel

Please cycle the tank for a few weeks before "throwing" the eel in. Something like Cycle will help speed that process and make the addition of new fish easier on the bio-load, but a couple of danios or minnows in the tank to cycle it would be a very good idea.

Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean...

I think id kickoff with an eheim aquaball filter, some aquarium sand or fine gravel and a few plants. Id probably hold off on the dinosaur eel until I got the bigger tank, its probably better not to keep rehousing it, put it in the one place and let it settle. Do a spot of fishless cycling and have a betta or a few tetras , maybe a small plec like a bulldog.
A test kit is a good idea, folks with small tanks will have more use for em than folks with big tanks as the water quality is likely to be more variable in a small tank.
