Okay, as always in fish research, I keep finding conflicting answers. Does anyone know if a couple of hillstream loaches would do okay in tank with a temprature that stays between 75-77 degrees F? I have quite a bit of current with two filters and a dual output airpump, but I've read where they tend to like colder water. However, several other people were reporting successfully keeping them at temps anywhere from 75-83 degrees F. What do y'all think??? Any one with experience out there?

Any hillstream loaches I've kept would die off very quickly at temps near 80F. The homaloptera I had died when I put them in my 55g at 78F. They did fine though in an unheated tank that stayed around 74-76F. Generally the flatter the body the more current they have adapted to and the more oxygen and cooler temps they need. That's not always true but a general rule you can use if you can't identify the exact species your dealing with.

Thanks y'all!! these are Beaufortia kweichowensis. I researched all my current tank inhabitants here at FP and I can safely drop down to 73-74 degrees. I'm a little worried about it though because it is so hot here in south Texas. Sometimes my tank will creep up to 78-79 with no heater on just because of the air temp. short of getting a chiller what can I do to help this? It's starting to cool off a little now, but summer will start again here in a month or two. I'm afraid to leave the tank top open with a fan---the harley rasboras are supposed to be good jumpers.
