[font color="#008000"]As many of you know, I am going to be setting up a 55 gallon FW tank soon and I was just wondering how long I should wait in between fish to add more.

For example, if I get a school of 6 neons then how many days or weeks should I wait until I get more neons or until I get my Bolivian Rams? This is really hypothetical, I am not sure what I am getting first for my tank...

I have never thought to ask this before. I don't know why but it has never crossed my mind before is all.

When cycling my 55, I waited atleast a week before adding more. I added 9 head and tailight tetras to begin with and waited two weeks before adding 5 cories. After that I think I waited a week in between. I checked my parameters every week and never got any ammonia. I thought maybe my test kit was bad. I only got a small amount of nitrItes. I think it was like 3 weeks into cycling and I had nitrAtes. I put sponges from my existing AC filter into the new one and lots of gravel from an existing aquarium. I think that helped alot with the process. I am still gradually adding fish and soon plants. It is so much fun planning and designing the tank. I hope it is as much fun for you. Good luck! :%)

I think there are too many and varied answers to even give you a close answer.

It will depend on how you go about the cycling, starter fish, plants, filtration, water treatment etc.

I would wait at least three weeks and get a full water test done before you add any fish at all.

Cardinal Tetras are a stronger variety than the Neon Tetras. I would even keep the starter for an extra month just to make sure every thing is working corectly.

I would also remove all the starter fish just before you introduce the new fish to the tank.

When buying the new fish add very gradually I prefer weekly

Dont forget to add some stress coat when adding new fish and dont feed until the next day and then only sparingly.

The secret of success is slow but steady.

Sorry guys, I should have been more specific. What I meant was after the tank has cycled how long in between each fish or groups of fish should you wait.

I was planning on using a small group on danios to cycle the tank since they seem to be quite hardy. Do you think 6 would do it?

Here is a better scenario.... This is just a scenario because I do not even have the stand for the tank built yet.
Tank is cycled and I have added a school of 10 Harlequins to the tank. Is a week long enough for the fish to get used to their surroundings and such for me to add 10 Cardinals to the tank? I could then wait another week and add my 2 Bolivian Rams. Wait another week to add my Keyholes.... you get the idea. This is of course considering that nothing goes wrong in the tank in the meantime as well.

How does this sounds?

If the tank is cycled, i would wait a week between adding fish. Just check the parameters before buying fish & if they're fine, you can buy them.
