All you need to breed these fish are some plants (fry hide in them, to avoid being eaten) and a big enough tank. If you are only using one full-sized male/female pair, then ten gallons is probably sufficient. I wouldn't go keeping adult swordtails in a ten though, because they are so active. Ten gallons is fine for breeding, and nothing else.

You really don't need to try hard to get these fish to breed. Swordtails, like the other common livebearers, are really easily bred. They will do the whole thing themselves, so all you need to worry about are the regular water changes, and the food. The male fish will get the female pregnant, the girl will bulge, and give birth after a while. The fry should be fed with fry foods.
I think that covers everything.

Just leave males with females and thats it. Every four weeks the females will give birth and you could raise them separatly to get a large number of fry or add more plants and have smaller amount.

78degrees F should do it. YOu may want to raise the temp for the fry as they will grow faster in higher tempps.

Well I think Nick basically covered everything.

Being livebearers, swords are probably among the easiest to breed. While breeding fish may be fun, you may want to consider thinking about the future. You are going to end up with a lot of fry, so make sure you have the room to house them all. A couple of grow out tanks would be wise. If you have fish like gouramis that just love eating fry, then you have one method of population control already. Call your LFS and ask around, see if you can find anyone interested in buying them for you when they reach sell-able (okay yes, I def. just made that word up) size. It can be a good money maker. Good Luck!

If i were you i would get more than one female becuase if you onky have one female the male will beat her up, but if you have more the aggression will be spread out.
