Depends how badly you want a tank i guess.

Call a few shops that are nearby and ask them for prices. That will save you some time.

Before you criticize someone walk a mile in their shoes. That way you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

it really depends where you go to, ive seen a 30g for $55 and ive seen them for $90, id say theyre roughly around the $70 dollar mark just for the tank and i think the hoods are about $95 pine and unstained.

Dude_Dude is from Australia so people quoting US experience is not really as relevant.

Can some Aussies who have bought a tank this size recently pse post?

Dude I would recommend giving a few places a call and writing down a list of prices and features. That way you don't have to get to as many places in person to check things out. Helps to 'let your fingers do the walking' as they say.

Also..............

Do you mean tank
OR
Tank, hood, stand
OR
Tank, hood, stand as well as filter/light/substrate.

In other words are you upgrading and using some existing stuff or all from scratch?

Petland is generally the most expensive in the area but about the only place to get a good tank. $50 for my 29, $65 for a 30, rounded and in US dollars.

30's are much better tho, they offer more surface area for life-perserving gas exchange, and they're bigger

If you are asking about the price of just the tank, I can help you. I bought a 29 gallon tank (one of the industry's standard sizes, unlike 30 gallons) for 37 dollars U.S., though it had been marked down from $51. The other stuff costs extra though, so that a complete 29 gallon setup costs around $200! That price is for good equipment though, not the cheap stuff.
The cost will vary from store to store, area to area, so do some looking around.

Hey Denny where are u from? I'm from Mtl
Actaully the whole pakage from walmart is actually not as good as they sound. They give u stuff of bare minimum. I've check at walmart and they are just S*** My friend actually bought one of the sets and he ended up buy seperate parts again. He had to buy the filter(because if wasn't strong enough) the heater (it cracked). I guess in the long run it just cost more.

due_dude I tink u should go check around for prices because every store varies.

Gee

my 29 gal from walmart was $150, and came with everything. hood, heater, filter, stuff for the water, etc.

canadian/australian dollars are pretty much on par, so $150 for everything would be a good guess.

see if you can find one at a big box store instead of a LFS. petstores charge an arm and a leg for something you can find really cheap elsewhere.

You have a problem here as this question varies drastically depending on where you are. In one part of the country, they may cost one ammount, in another, something else.
