| How to save my eggs? | |
stallion81![]() Big Fish Posts: 327 Kudos: 255 Votes: 143 Registered: 17-Jan-2004 ![]() | Hello. I posted "something strange in my tank" in GFW and was told to try here. I have a 100 or so eggs stuck to my filter intake(penguin 330), some white some clear. Guessin they belong to my Angels. What do I do? The angels are nippin at them. No one else has came close to the area. Options: 1 leave them in there, 2 breeding net, 3 move to my 15gal. If move, how do I remove them from filter intake? Any help appreciated as Ive never had eggs before, besides 1 holding Cichlid(Mbuna). |

Well it was their first time. Got a long piece of slate I will work in, so hopefully they will use that as a landing strip instead next time. Prepin my 15gal so I can try to raise myself next time |

As they mature and experience more spawns, they will probably get to be better parents. They should spawn now for you about once every 14-21 days like clockwork. If you want to save the eggs, make sure they get laid on something you can remove from the tank easily. A large plant like an Anubias or a large Java Fern can make for good removeable laying surfaces, so can tall thin peices of slate or glass/plexiglass. One the eggs are laid, remove them to your seperate location, place an air stone directly under the eggs so that the bubbles pass over them. Add methylene blue to the water to prevent fungus. I am not sure of the exact amount of methylene blue to add to the water, I have never used this method to raise baby angels. I wait till my pair lay their eggs and they care for them till the eggs hatch (about 72 hours after being laid). Once they are wigglers, you can remove them to a small container(tupperware works well) inside the parents tank floating or taped to the side of the tank. Add an air stone and keep an eye on them. Wigglers dont need to be fed until they are free swimming(about 5-7 days). Newly hatched fry do best on baby brine shrimp (easily made, take 1g jar, add air stone, water and salt and eggs, place under a constant light source. Leave light on, 16-48 hours later you have brine shrimp). If you are patient, you can just wait a few times to see if your angels raise them by themselves. I have been waiting several months and probably 2 dozen spawns now for mine to make it. I rescued some babies this time when they hatched to wigglers. I have 4 left, about 7mm in length and doing well in their first grow out tank. Good luck, and i hope this info helps some! To prevent the fry from being sucked up the intake, you can wrap it in fine netting or the like. |
