Hi guys and gals,

To begin with:

My tank is a 55gal
Ammonia=0
NitrItes=0
NitrAtes=20-30
Ph=6-6.2
Temp is at 27oC - 80oF
Fluval 204 + Aquaclear 300 (Filtering)
Medium Planted

Ocuppants
Pair of black lace angels (breding pair)
3 Danios
10 cories
2 Bn's
1 pitbull
2 Flying foxes
2 Spotted Raphaels
4 guppies
2 mountain shrimps
x # of ghost shrimps

I would like to add a schooling fish, a nice colorful batch, not too big fish size(inches). Some of my choices were:
Neons/Cardinals angels would hunt them down
Pencil fishes Heard they were nocturnal
Cherry barbs They are not schooling fish
Tiger barbs Maybe, had em b4 would like to try somin new

I really love the Neons/Cardianals, their colors are nice but angels have them for lunch... I try finding colorful species like the neons but can't really fine any. I will be adding some rams and/or apistos sp.
Any suggestions would be apeciated.

TIA

Gee

Couple questions...

What kind of cories do you have?

What's a mountain shrimp? I never heard of that...

Don't do tiger barbs, they start out cute and small but they grow up to be nippy and semi aggressive fin nippers.

The best small schooling fish for color would be rummies or harlies IMO. The rummynose tetra and the harlequin rasabora both are very pretty, and tight schoolers for the most part. Check out the profiles on this site for pictures.

Oh, and make sure you're doing WC's to keep those nitrAtes down.

Pencilfishes are not nocturnal. Mine were always active in the day when I kept them. Great little fish with wonderful traits no other fish has! I highly recommend them. The males turn brilliant deep red when mating.
Cherry barbs dont school, but are nice.
Neons and Cards may get eaten. I lost neons to my angel.
You could go with Glowlight tetras. I have successfully been keeping a lovely school of 13 with my angels and they never pay them any attention. They are one of the best schooling fish as well! And I love their shiny silver bodys and red stripes, and shiny little red eyes. Beautiful little critters.
Mountain Shrimp are also know as Singapore Wood Shrimp. They are a large shrimp that reach about 3 inches. Beautiful large filter feeders, they take floating things out of your water. Wonderful to watch.

I agree with Angeladdict, first bump up your danios to a proper school of at least 6. If all those cories are the same species, GREAT! If not, try to have at least 6 of each species. This may mean that you have to return some.
The flying foxes may get a little aggressive later. Not to the extreme of a CAE, but they aren't as peaceful as a SAE. The Raphaels will get about 8 inches long, big enough to eat some of your smaller fish. I think the guppies, danios, and future cardinals or whatever will get eaten if they can catch them. They are nocturnal, so they can sneak up on the fish while they're sleeping. Before you add any fish I'd return those Raphaels.

The fact that you have 20-30 ppm of nitrates isn't really comforting. That is a little high, with about 40 being where it stresses out the fish. I think that shows that your stocking is fine how it is, unless you remove some larger fish and replace them with smaller ones.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

Janna u've read my mind!! I wanted to get rid of 1 of my flying foxes(or should I remove 2?) and raphaels. The flying fox is showing signs of aggression towards the other flying fox. The raphaels are kinda never around... I will definately bump up my danios.
For my cories:
7 bronze
3 albinos(i tink they are the same as the bronzes right?)
1 peppered (lookin for a new home for him)

Should i bump up my albinos too or they would do fine with the bronzes?

I'm working of nitrAte sucking plants now and also I will do more water changes now(since my midterms are done )

So my choices are now
Harlis
Pencilfish
Rummynose
