| I want DP's! | |
chrism![]() Enthusiast Posts: 152 Kudos: 109 Votes: 19 Registered: 14-Jul-2004 ![]() | Hello all, I've been after some dawrf puffers for quite a while now, and recently saw some in my lfs (fell in love! ) but had enough trouble getting my rents to agree to me having 1 fish tank, now i have 2 tanks, and the bug has hit me bad! So i'm hoping to get a small 10 gal, to house a some Dp's. I've read that 3 could fit in, it's best to have more females than males, three might be pushing it, so would 2 females be a better option? I'm assuming i couldnt have any other tank mates with them? I know they need a constant supply of snails, i have a few common pond snails in my main tank, obviously not enough to feed regularly. Is it possible that i could use the puffers tank to raise the snails? I'm thinking Ramshorn Snails would be my best bet... My main concern is that my water is too hard for them, i cant quite remember the actuall figure, but i know it is HARD! how hard is your water? or what's the hardest you would keep them in? My Ph is 7.6... any tips? have i missed anything? |

I don't think you would be able to raise snails in the puffer tank, the puffers would probably pick the snails to death. DPs don't need snails as often as a lot of puffers, once a week or so would be sufficient. As for the hardness of your water, DPs are quite versatile when it comes to water hardness and I would be very surprised if your water was too hard for them. Other than that, if you haven't found it, check out http://www.dwarfpuffers.com for all the information you could ever want on these awesome little fishies! HTH ![]() |

You can easily set up a breeding tank. I use 2 and 5gal. It can have a bare bottom, get a small internal filter or an airstone. They will reproduce quite quickly if the temp is >78, you overfeed them (any leftovers) and do regular water changes. Kim |
