I went to my LFS today and found that they had "Australian Rainbows". Hoping Someone can help with the identify.

I searched on the web and they stated Melanotaenia splendida is often sold as Australian Rainbow, and it does have similiar finnage to this one ]http://www.badmanstropicalfish.com/stats/rainbow_stats/stats_rainbow1e.html#checkered_rainbowfish[/link] but coloring that i saw is more similiar to [link=this one

Bodies are starting to stretch vertically ... forward facing mouth.

Attatched is what my camera saw <g>

Thanks,

Bdadawg

They definetely look like M. splendida splendida.

I.e Chequered rainbows. Might be worth seeing if you can find where they came from as each individual creek has slight colour variations.

Yes, they are M. splendida, splendida. The red lines on the back half of the body, such as show up nicely on the last pic, on the fish to the right, are a classic sign.

Thanks for all those who posted.

My LFS is a great place to get fish (cheap well taken care of). However the fisheries he buys from arent real great about giving good names. So i usually end up either buying them or if really uncertain ... going home researching them then driving back another 45 mins to get there.
