Will burning incense or using an oil burner in the same room as my tanks bother my fish? The tanks don't have an air pump, but i do have labrynth fish.

Ferox,

Your fish will be bothered if they don’t like the flavor of your incense

No, just kidding - here is my real answer:

It certainly could be that they are not only bothered but also get sick from it, in particular the oil burner. I assume you are describing the basement where the heating system for the house is located? I would say that it depends on how clean the burning process is. If a lot of dust-like debris is the output then it will settle anywhere it can reach and that means it will find the openings on the top of your tank. It will deposit on your water and, as you can imagine, that is not good.

To sum it up, the smell doesn’t bother the fish, the exhaust does.

I think by oil burner ferox means one of the those candle holder things that have a dish on the top to burn oil/water to scent the room?

i burn oil in my room and have never noticed it upsetting the fish.

any one else?

GFG

ps - i also burn scented candles....would that be a problem too?

Silly me, off course I had to transfer my own layout to everybody else (guess I am too old for the oil burning thingy in the room, or just not hip enough).

In that case, never mind my concerns as I also don’t believe that an oil lamp thing or incense would harm the fishies, except if you should pour some of the burn off into the tank.

I hate smoke of any kind. Even little tea candles make me cough. I have an electric potpourri type pot that will heat oils and this electric pad that you can set scented candles on. It also makes it so the candles last forever(or until all the smell evaporates at least) instead of burning them down and becoming useless when the wick is gone. No fire hazard, no smoke, and all the same scents.

I think it might harm the fish in large amounts. I think it would be best if you'd open up your windows for more ventilation and have a lid on the tank.

I used a small amount of air freshener before and whiped out about $70 of fish. Yippee

See, that’s what I always say, use a regular tank filter instead of dunking an air freshener into the tank to remove the smell.
