Right now I have the following in a 39 gallon Setup:

1 angel
1 rainbow shark
2 kribensis
2 German Rams
2 dwarf Gourami
5 tetra
2 hatchet
2 plecos
2 danios
2 swordtail

I wondered if adding shrimp would be beneficial to my set up, or will it be too much for my current tank? I was thinking Cherry Shrimp...any thoughts?

You could add a few without problems but you have some other issues with your stock. Im guessing that the plecos are commons which will get to big for your tank. You should pick between the rams and kribs as there could be territory issues there. Finally the hatchets and danios need to be in groups of 6.

Hey, thanks for the responses. I was going to get more hatchets and danios, but I have had them for almost three months now and they all seem happy...should I still be worried?

The plecos are common plecos and I plan to bring them to the lps when they get to be more than 4 inches.

The kribs and the rams seem to be doing alright as well. The kribs have control of the cave and I ordered two more caves to add in the tank, so then the rams will have a place as well...some say they are fine together, others say they aren't...so I am torn.

As far as the shrimp, would 10 be a good number? And is it even worth getting them?

I would remove the rainbow shark as well (in addition to what has already been mentioned that is).

As for shrimp, you MAY be buying snacks with an angel in the tank. There is no way shrimp would survive in a tank with my angels! My angels would see them and think !

hmmm...I am not sure I want to spend $40 on surf and turf for Gabriel, my angel fish! Although, he is pretty small, only about 2 inches right now...

Why do you think I should get rid of the rainbow shark? Is that just if I want to get shrimp, or that you just don't think he is good for the tank?

Jason,

If I get rid of the plecos, what should I put in to keep the algae and substrate under control?

Instead of the common plecs. Get 1 or 2 bristle nose as they only get 6" max. Normally only about 4-5". Or if you don't want plecos, you could get 3-6 otos.
